Welcome to Pirate Adventures of Myrtle Beach! A place where children come to experience the magic of sailing away in search of sunken treasure. Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!
Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!

    - Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

    - The AVX Foundation and the Horry County Museum present a free lecture by Mary Battle on the Lowcountry Digital History Initiative on June 4, 2016 at the Horry County Museum.
The Lowcountry Digital History Initiative (LDHI) is a digital public history project hosted by the Lowcountry Digital Library (LCDL) at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Funded through a pilot project grant from the Humanities Council of South Carolina and a major grant award from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, LDHI began development in 2013 and launched in 2014 as an editorial resource and online platform for partner institutions and collaborative scholars to translate archival materials, historic landscapes and structures, and scholarly research into digital exhibitions. In partnership with the College of Charleston’s Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture and the Program for the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World (CLAW), a major goal within LDHI’s mission is to encourage projects that highlight underrepresented race, class, gender, and labor histories within the Lowcountry region, and in historically interconnected Atlantic World sites. In this presentation, LDHI’s Co-Director, Mary Battle, will describe how LDHI staff organized open source tools, developed multi-institutional partnerships, and worked with librarians, graduate students, archivists, museum professionals, and humanities scholars to launch LDHI. She will also discuss some recent and upcoming online exhibition highlights, including an online tribute to the Mother Emanuel Church and an exhibition about the history of the Avery Normal Institute, a historic African American school that opened in 1865.
The program begins at 1 PM in the McCown Auditorium at the Horry County Museum located at 805 Main Street, Conway SC. This event is free and open to the public.
For further information, please call the Horry County Museum at 843-915-5320 or e-mail at HCGMuseum@horrycounty.org. To view a full list of programs, visit our website at http://www.horrycountymuseum.org.
