EXPERIENCE THE HOLIDAY MAGIC AS CAPITOL BALLET COMPANY PRESENTS Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker

Join Clara and her Nutcracker Prince and relive the wonder and enchantment of this holiday season through Capitol Ballet Company’s live performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and first performed in Russia over a century ago, The Nutcracker has become an enduring holiday classic captivating the imaginations of all ages. This will be our tenth anniversary of performing the beloved Nutcracker at Sheldon High School Performing Arts Center.

Celebrate Christmas Eve with Clara at her family’s grand celebration at the Stahlbaum manor. Herr Drosselmeyer amazes the children with his magical inventions, a life-size doll and bear, which seemingly come to life. Then dream with Clara as her courageous Nutcracker Prince and his toy soldiers boldly battle the villainous Mouse King and his army of mice. Victorious in battle, Clara’s Nutcracker becomes a handsome prince and leads her away on a magical journey. Travel with them as they pass through the beautiful land of snow and on to the Kingdom of Sweets, where they are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy and delighted by dances performed in their honor, including the Waltz of the Flowers and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

The Nutcracker will be performed on Saturday, December 10, 2016, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Sheldon High School Performing Arts Center, 8333 Kingsbridge Drive, Sacramento, California. Tickets are $22-$25 for adults; $16-$18 for children (17 and under), seniors (60+), and military with ID. Tickets may be purchased at click for details or by calling Capitol Ballet Company at (916) 484-1188.

    - Margery Williams’ classic story of a velveteen rabbit, who becomes real through the love of a boy, is brought to life in this adaptation by Brian Burgess Clark. The play opens on Christmas Day with all of the wonder and excitement of the sea-son. The boy receives a beautiful velveteen rabbit, who is destined to become his best friend. On his first night in the nursery, the velveteen rabbit meets all the other toys and learns about becoming real. Soon the velveteen rabbit and the boy are having adventures in Africa and flying through the clouds. When the boy becomes ill, his friend the velveteen rabbit must help him recover. After the boy is better, Nana declares all his toys must be burned because they are full of germs—even the velveteen rabbit. But, just before the velveteen rabbit is going to be put on the bonfire, the Nursery Fairy appears and saves the day.
