Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

  • | 6:00pm - 8:00pm | Special Interest, marriage, couple workshop, premarital workshop, family, kids, gottman
    - The Seven Principles Program is based on Dr. John Gottman's New York Times Best Selling book, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. You may have heard of Dr. Gottman's world renowned fame as "the guy who can predict divorce with 94% accuracy". His 40 years of research with over 3,000 couples has revolutionized the field of couples therapy and served as the backbone of couples therapy practice world wide. Dr. Gottman has been able to distill with empirical evidence what actually makes relationships last and ultimately what will tear them apart. It is with the foundation of Dr. Gottman's research and proven relationship enhancement strategies that I bring to you, the Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.

    You will learn to:
    Enhance romance and intimacy
    Manage conflict constructively
Gain skills to address perpetual and solvable problems
    Create shared meaning
    Maintain gains throughout a lifetime

    Is this workshop for us?
Couples that would benefit from this workshop:
    Pre-Engaged
    Pre-Marital
    Everyone from newlyweds to seniors
Those who wish to enhance a good marriage
Those needing better conflict management tools

Couples that this workshop is not suited for:
    Severe relationship distress
    Emotional abuse
    Domestic abuse
People not in recovery for their addiction
Untreated mental health problems in one or both partners

    What should I expect?
You can expect energetic, charismatic and smart presenters who are not here to be your therapist but instead your teacher. This is not couples therapy. This marriage enrichment course is intended to be educational while also deeply helpful. Through a combination of lecture, exercises, readings and journaling, you will be able to take what you learn in class and immediately apply it at home. You will NOT be sharing personal details of your relationship with the class leaders or with other couples in the class. Phew...sigh of relief. The class will be set in a small lecture style format as well as breakout space for you to work on exercises with your partner. You can expect to learn, grow and have fun. You can also expect that you may be working on bettering your relationship by exchanging old habits for new, better habits that will strengthen your relationship. Changing out old habits for new habits takes time and can be tough, but boy is it worth it! You can expect to feel closer and more connected to your partner once finishing this marriage enrichment course.

What the marriage enrichment clinic is not:
    It is not therapy
It is not an open sharing of personal problems. All exercises and discussions will occur privately between you and your partner.

    Your Clinic Leaders:

Remember when I said that you can expect this marriage enhancement course to fun and engaging...it's because the leaders are fun and engaging! Seriously, we love to teach and it shows. Laura Heck and Levi Schomas are too super cool people who work with couples for a living. They are licensed therapists that see couples in private practice and have a true passion for teaching how to love with respect and kindness in hopes that we can all be in healthier, happier relationships.
