  • | 10:00am - | Shows, Festivals, and Fairs, The Literary Festival of Charlotte, Charlotte, NC, authors, book signings
    - A single moment - that's all it takes to influence a young person's life. As a stakeholder in Charlotte's communities, you know this. The Literary Festival of Charlotte (formerly called the Charlotte Book Fair) organically formed in 2011 because a small group had a passion and goal to ignite young people's love for reading. Over the past year, the team's love of reading has evolved into a love of literacy that explores the natural integration with culture, art, music, entertainment and science. Thus, the team has evolved the focus from a book fair to a literary festival.

Our primary method has been to host a day long event each October offering storytelling, rhythmic song, dance, drumming and enlightening author readings. Giving the youth access to literacy experiences fosters imaginations, innovation, and positively affects their communities and families.

There will be local authors such as Jordon Greene and Caleb Wygal will be on hand signing copies of their books, as well as other activities, performances and workshops for all ages.

    - Plans are now underway for the 8th annual Taste of Union, and we are excited for another year of fantastic food, silent auction items, music, and fellowship! Attended each year by about 350 people, Taste of Union has been a main fundraiser for Operation Reach Out for several years. Operation Reach Out is a nonprofit, 501(3)(c) Christian organization whose mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a struggling community. We offer a daily Bible study and lunch, lots of prayer & counseling, and emergency food, clothing, household items, personal hygiene items, medical supplies, and utility assistance.

We also operate a food pantry and a resale store five days a week. Visit our website at click for details for much more information about Operation Reach Out and Taste of Union.

  • - October 1, 1932 in the fifth inning of game three of the 1932 World Series, with a count of two balls and two strikes, Babe Ruth pointed to the center field bleachers in Chicago's Wrigley Field and followed up by hitting a soaring home run high above the very spot to which he had just gestured. Did he really call his shot? Some Disagree, some eyewitnesses and Cubs pitcher Charlie Root believe he did not. Even Babe Ruth's Daughter said that he denied it, but Babe himself also claimed he did it.
