  • Culver’s® of Schererville Unlimited Possibilities Drawing Contest - In celebration of National Library Week, April 12 - April 19, the Dyer-Schererville Branch of the Lake County Public Library System will join Culver’s® of Schererville in the Unlimited Possibilities drawing contest for children ages four to eleven. Every child who completes a drawing will receive a Culver’s Be Our Guest certificate for a free single scoop of Culver’s Fresh Frozen Custard and will also be entered into a random drawing to win a Scoopie Kids meal certificate.

"Books allow children to explore worlds both real and imaginary," said Culver’s of Schererville owner John Gates. "Any time we can encourage a child to read and use their imagination, we want to take part in that effort. National Library Week provides all of us with an important reminder of the positive role books play in shaping young minds and developing reading and language skills."

The drawing contest encourages children to read and celebrate their favorite book characters. Children can enter the contest by picking up drawing sheets from the Dyer-Schererville Branch beginning April 12th and are encouraged to draw a picture of the main character or theme.

Drawings will be displayed at Culver's of Schererville through the month of April.

"We are excited to partner with Culver’s to help get kids, and the community, excited about reading," said Babs, Director of Children's Services with Dyer-Schererville Branch.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and state library associations and libraries across the country each April.

The planetarium opens for seating 30 minutes before the show begins. No one will be admitted after the program starts.

Fifty years ago, America began a two-man space program named for the spring constellation of the twins. Sandwiched between the pioneering flights of Mercury and the drama of Apollo, the Gemini missions paved the way to landing on the moon with the first American spacewalks and dockings.

Admission to public programs is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Seating is limited and should be reserved by calling (219) 650-5486 or here on the web site. Large groups can arrange for a private show by calling the planetarium at (219) 650-5486.

This is the third of four public programs for the 2014-2015 school year. Our next public show, "The Moon," will be in July 2015. The planetarium is located in Clifford Pierce Middle School at 199 East 70th Avenue in Merrillville, Indiana. Please park and enter on the west side of the building.
