    - By Charles Dickens, Adapted for the stage by Joe Landry,
    Music by Kevin Connors
    Directed by Matt Valuckis

The Charles Dickens holiday classic comes to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with vintage commercials for fruitcake (extra-fancy), and the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. A handful of actors bring dozens of characters to the stage, as the familiar story unfolds: Three ghosts take Ebenezer Scrooge on a thrilling journey to teach him the true meaning of Christmas. A charming take on a family favorite that will leave no one saying "Bah Humbug!"

Pokagon State Park's refrigerated Toboggan Run near Angola, Indiana, has about 90,000 riders every season. With the 30-foot tower and dips and valleys, the total vertical drop is 90 feet over the course of a quarter mile. The top recorded speed is 42 mph. It's a 20 to 30 second thrill ride.

It opens for the season, with or without snow at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 25. It operates on weekends only through Feb. 26, 2017.

    Hours:
    Friday: 5:30-9 p.m.
    Saturday: 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
    Sunday: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Toboggan has extended hours during winter break and is open on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day and Presidents’ Day.

Pokagon State Park is near Angola in NE Indiana. Toboggans are $13/hour and a maximum of 4 people can be on a sled. Must use toboggans provided--they are designed for the track. Sled with snow or no snow!

    Park entrance fees: $7 in-state vehicles, $9 out-of-state vehicles, $2 a person on a bus.

You will need to carry your toboggan back to the top so make sure that you bring a friend to help. This would be difficult for a single adult with kids.

For consideration, send us an email (resume not needed) and we'll sit down and show you why EXIT made Real Estate Brokerage different than all the others, and how you can capitalize on it. Send your email to ExitRealtyIndiana@gmail.com or call our Hiring Coordinator Dan at 317-863-9481.

    - Adler Planetarium recently announced the entire schedule and themes for next year's Adler After Dark series. Every third Thursday of the month, Adler After Dark gives adults ages 21+ the chance to explore the museum's exhibits and galleries while sipping booze.

This guaranteed opportunity to avoid hordes of screaming schoolchildren is always paired with a specific theme. For instance, in December the planetarium held a release party for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Along with the theme comes hosts of special guests, awesome lectures and events unique to the theme. That Star Wars-themed rendition of Adler After Dark we mentioned featured a light-saber combat workshop, a cosplay contest, trivia and a screening of Spaceballs, the best Star Wars spoof around.

Adler's After Dark events really are something unique in this city, both for their consistency and creativity. Certainly, they're something our museum scene, though incredible, has yet to match. Without further adieu, here's the complete 2016 Adler After Dark schedule

    April 21: Across the Universe

The truly incomprehensible size of the universe is celebrated alongside the music of the Beatles and the late 1960s.

    May 19: Planetary Prom

If you couldn't make prom night, now's your chance. Guests dress up in prom couture for an unforgettable night of dancing…without the awkward stress of finding the perfect date.

    June 16: Eureka!

Discover the latest in wacky technology that's revolutionizing the way we live our daily lives in the 21st century.

    July 21: Jumpin’ Jupiter

The arrival of NASA spacecraft Juno to our solar system's largest planet is celebrated, and the latest data Juno has collected is shared.

    August 18: Camp Adler

Adler makes camping just as fun in the city with this night that teaches the basics of stargazing and celestial navigation.

    September 15: Boldly Go!

Say cheers to the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek crew beginning their voyage into the cosmos and into the hearts of science fiction fans across the world.

    October 20: Nightmare

Delve into the infinite void of space where all is black, from which few things we've known have returned. The terrors of the cosmos are the topic of this Halloween-season night at Adler.

    November 17: Weird Science

The world is weird. Attendees get to walk through the Weird Science Fair, chock full of bizarre experiments, robotics and food technology that's delightfully off its rocker.

    December 15: Lights Out

While most of what we see when we look out into space is light, this final Adler After Dark of the year takes a hard stare at what goes on in the dark. Space phenomena such as black holes, supernovas and other objects are the night's themes. Just don't forget the beer.

On your way to the beach you will walk through the remnant of the once-widespread wetland system called Cowles Bog. The bog encompasses a marsh surrounding a small fen, where a stand of tamaracks and white pines grows on a floating mat of peat moss. Starting near the guardhouse in the northeastern part of the site, a boardwalk trail passes marshes and ponds that host horned grebes, black-crowned night herons, buffleheads, and a myriad of other water birds. You can hike right out to the beach and back on 4.5 miles of interconnecting loop trails. Two trailheads serve the trail system, each with a portable toilet. Parking is very limited and needless to say there are no lifeguards making the trek out to this secluded beach.

    About
Indiana Dunes State Park encompasses 2,182 acres of beach, dunes, marshes, swamps, hardwood forests, and white pine groves and is surrounded by National Lakeshore lands. The park's 16.5 miles of trails allow you to explore all these habitats, which shelter diverse wildlife and provide excellent birding. Even on the busiest summer days, if you head away from the public beach house, you'll quickly lose the crowds. Scan the open water for ships, beachcomb, and take in the sweeping backdrop of the dunes. Watch birds on the open water, feeding at the water's edge, or from the small bird observatory in the park’s Nature Center. The park provides camping, picnicking, showers, snack bar, camp store, and a park naturalist. In summer, the park offers a small gift shop and swimming beach with lifeguards. Interpretive naturalist programs are held daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and on weekends the rest of the year. Mt. Baldy is closed except for scheduled ranger-led tours, but all other Indiana Dunes beaches and sand dunes are open. Visitors wanting to see or hike tall sand dunes are encouraged to visit Indiana Dunes State Park and do The 3 Dune Challenge (click for details To complete The 3 Dune Challenge, a person must hike a special 1.5 mile course at Indiana Dunes State Park, climbing Mount Jackson (elevation 176 feet), Mount Holden (184 feet), and Mount Tom (192 feet). Some parts of the trail feature 40-degree slopes, making each step that much more, well, challenging. In the sandy vertical climbs, it’s common to take two steps forward and slide one step back. The 3 Dune Challenge’s dunes are significantly higher than the 125-foot Mt. Baldy. As for Mt. Baldy, it is just one of several Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore sites, and the other sites remain open, including West Beach, Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk, Porter Beach, Kemil Road Beach, Dunbar Access Point, Lake View Picnic Area and Central Avenue Beach. Explore this website or call Indiana Dunes Tourism at (800) 283-8687 for more information. Note that Mt. Baldy will remain closed until further notice while scientists investigate unexplained holes that have opened up on its surface. Mt. Baldy is the only site where such issues have been reported.
