    Sledding tubes are available for rent at Plum Creek Nature Center, 27064 S. Dutton
    Road, Beecher, IL.
    Renters must be 18 years old and bring a valid driver's license or state ID.
    Tubes may be limited to one tube per license/ID. Tubes are rented until 4 p.m. and must be returned
    to the Nature Center by 4:30 p.m.

    All parks have trail systems that can accommodate Cross-Country Skiing. We dont groom the trails but you can blaze your own.
    At this time there is no County Park that has Down Hill Skiing or Snowboarding.

    Lake County Parks:
    Dates:             December 1 through February  
    Rental
    Times:  Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and school holidays 10 a.m. until
    4:30 p.m.   All equipment must be returned by 4:30 p.m. (earlier if
    necessary due to darkness).  Note: Closing times may vary due to
    sunset.  Parks close at sunset.
    Cost:               $7 includes the use of skis, boots, poles, and winter fun.
    Equipment:     Skis, poles, and boots. Adult and childrens sizes are available.
    Deposit:         
    A valid driver's license or credit card must be left with park employee
    in charge as security on the equipment. License or credit card will be
    returned when equipment is returned.
    Special:           In the case
    of good snow conditions on non-rental days, call Stoney Run or Oak Ridge
    Prairie to check on additional availability of rentals.

    Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides at Buckley Homestead! - Dolly and Molly, the beautiful Belgian horses that call Buckley home, will pull you along the snowy paths of the historic farm. The open bed wagon on runners is a chilly ride so make sure you dress accordingly and bring a blanket for your lap!

    CALL BEFORE COMING TO THE PARK -- The availability of rides depends on snow and temperature conditions. Call Buckley Homestead at 219-696-0769 and push the option for park information prior to visiting the park to check weather conditions.

Over the course of the summer, an unlikely friendship develops between Norman and the boy, bringing together generations and the lessons they learn from each other.     Taltree Arboretum & Gardens hosts spring Indiana Master Naturalist program March 12 – May 14, 2015

    Valparaiso, IN – Taltree Arboretum & Gardens is hosting a spring Indiana Master Naturalist program. This hands-on learning experience and volunteer service opportunity teaches students about the native landscape and local wildlife of Northwest Indiana. The course includes sessions on botany, zoology, geology, water ecology and wildlife conservation taught by area experts.
    “Anyone can become a master of nature with this all-inclusive series,” said Maddie Grimm, Director of Education at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens. “Beyond learning, students will put their knowledge to work by performing 30 hours of community service to earn their program certificate.”
    The ten week course begins Thursday, March 12 and runs through Thursday, May 14. Classes are held on Thursday mornings. The course cost is $100 and it is open to adults age 18 and over.
