    - “Addiction 101” will be presented on Tuesday September 27, 2016, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; by James Balmer; President, Dawn Farm. This program will provide a general overview of alcohol/other drug addiction and recovery. The presenter will examine the progression of alcohol/other drug use, review addiction as a brain disease and discuss the process of recovery. Participants will learn how individuals experience initial and continuing alcohol and other drug use and gain a basic understanding of the process and diagnosis of addiction, how the brain functions in a person with alcohol/other drug addiction, and methods utilized to help people with alcohol/other drug use disorders achieve sustained recovery. This program is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series, a FREE, annual education series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency, recovery, family and related issues; and to dispel the myths, misinformation, secrecy, shame and stigma that prevent chemically dependent individuals and their families from getting help and getting well. All programs are free and open to anyone interested. Registration is not required. 1.5 hours of free C.E. approved by NAADAC (National Association for Addiction Professionals) and MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) is provided.     - Farm Family Matters is a free, six-session education, skill-building and support group for family members, loved ones and friends of people with alcohol and other drug addiction (including family/friends of people struggling with addiction, in treatment, or in recovery from addiction, and people who are concerned about another person’s substance use.) Topics repeat every six weeks and include, “Addiction 101,” “Treatment and Twelve Steps,” “Relapse and Recovery,” “Communication,” “Family dynamics,” and “Boundaries.” People can join the group at any phase in the cycle. The group provides an opportunity to learn about addiction and family dynamics, and share your experiences with others who understand. You are not alone!

    - “Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a free, ongoing, two-part education series. Part one is presented on the first Tuesday of October, November, and January through June and provides information on how to recognize and understand adolescent substance use problems. Part two Part is presented on the second Tuesday of October, November, and January through June and provides information on what does and does not help when a teen substance use problem is suspected, and concludes with a short talk by a young person in recovery. The series is presented by Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services therapists, and is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston and Washtenaw Regional Coordinated School Health Network, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Greenbrook Recovery Center and the Ann Arbor Public Schools. The series is free and open to all. The presentations are inclusive of parents and caretakers of teens and young adults, teens, family members, people who work with teens, students, and anyone interested in attending for any reason. Parents/teens are welcome to attend together. Registration is not required. A certificate to document attendance can be provided on request.
