  • | 7:00pm - 9:00pm | Meeting, Genealogy
    - McHenry County Illinois Genealogical Society (MCIGS) will hosts a presentation by Marsha Peterson-Maass who will discuss, “A 60-Minute Crash Course: Beginning Genealogy Using Accredited Methods.” This is a fun look at accredited basics and research methodology suitable for everyone. If you're a beginner you'll take away a sense of what you need to be doing in your research. If you're an experienced genealogist you might be surprised to discover how much of the accredited methodology you only "sort of knew" and that knowing the accredited research precepts can actually help revitalize your current search. Topics are chosen directly from the Fundamentals of Genealogy®: Basics for Everyone textbook so it's easy to follow along with the talk. Textbooks are distributed before the lecture so participants can peruse them during the lecture and can optionally purchase to take home for $20/each (this price is a 20% discount).

Marsha got her start in genealogy in high school when she entered a family history project in the State of Illinois History competition and tied for State Champion. Her first formal training in genealogy was at The Newberry Library-Chicago in the beginner’s class that she now teaches (since 2002). She is author of the Fundamentals of Genealogy® textbook series, blog and social media platforms. And today, along with teaching and lecturing on a wide range of topics, Marsha has a thriving forensic genealogy practice, called “Commercial DNA Analysis Services,” where she analyzes clients’ commercial DNA test results then offers a choice of several reports including the topics of → Unknown Parentage, Ethnicity Review, Building Family Trees, DNA Comparison of Siblings and Customized Questions. And this year, she was invited to join television celebrity CeCe Moore’s team at “The DNA Detectives” where they help adoptees find biological relatives thru commercial DNA analysis

The meeting will be held at The Pointe, 5650 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 (next to Target) at 7:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 2016.

For more information, please email mcigs@mcigs.org or telephone 815-687-0436.

  • | 7:30pm - | Arts and Entertainment, Clint Black, Country, Music, Live
    - Clint Black is back. The multi-million selling country mega-star is releasing On Purpose, his first full-length album of new songs in a decade and he’ s doing it on his own terms. “To me, it’ s only a ‘ comeback’ in that I’ m putting out something new,” says the award-winning singer-songwriter. “As someone who has never stopped working, I don’ t see me as having gone away, as I tour extensively, write and produce for television, films as well as other artists." During his hiatus Black was courted by the majors (labels). All of them wantedhim to sing other writers’ songs, but Black insisted on writing his own, as well as to being his own producer. Black’ s On Purpose compiles a strikingly diverse group of his self-produced songs. His ballads “Only One Way to Live,”“Stay Gone,”“Breathing Air”and “The Last Day” have never cut deeper, while his spirited “Beer”and “Better and Worse” are among the most upbeat songs he has ever crafted. “Time For That,”“Doing It Now For Love”and “Summertime Song” are catchy examples of how groove-soaked his music can be.
