    - The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

    - PITS FOR PATRIOTS Founder Kelly Yearwood today announced the organization will host its 4th Annual Tattoo Event on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland Avenue, Chicago, IL from 11am-9pm. Cost is $30 per person and includes food from a limited menu and cover for the evening’s musical entertainment. Tattoo’s require an additional $50 deposit for design work.

    Proceeds will be used to continue the training, feeding, housing, and vet care for the rescued pit bulls preparing to be service dogs, therapy dogs, emotional support, skilled companion, search and rescue, and companion dogs for our veterans and first responders.

    The event will include musical entertainment by Them Guilty Aces and The Alder Kings, silent auction of sports and other celebrity items, 50/50 raffle and raffle prizes.

    - McHenry County Illinois Genealogical Society (MCIGS) will host Diana Kenney’s presentation, “The GAR, Grand Army of the Republic – When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. 2,533 men from McHenry County answered President Lincoln’s call for volunteers to fight for our nation during the Civil War. Sadly, 1 out of 6 did not return alive. But many did come home to lead interesting and productive lives. Join Crystal Lake Historical Society President, Diana Kenney, as she shares the stories of some of our Civil War veterans after they came marching home.

    The meeting will be held at The Pointe, 5650 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 (next to Target) at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 12, 2016.
