    FEATURED RESTAURANTS:
Where are the best places to grab a bite to eat while on the Home Tour? The Home Tour is featuring three restaurants that we think you will love, one in each of our eclectic and diverse commercial corridors, for your culinary pleasure.

    • 5 Points Featured Restaurant: Black Sheep (1534 Oak Street) is an independent restaurant focusing on fresh, local ingredients, hand-crafted food, and gracious service. They offer a full bar, signature cocktails, craft beers and an excellent wine list. Fast casual lunch Monday through Friday, dinner Monday through Saturday, and brunch Saturday and Sunday.
    • Park & King Featured Restaurant: European Street Cafe (2753 Park Street) takes you away from the ordinary into a comfortable international atmosphere where you can indulge in the pleasures of foreign countries. Their menu includes over 150 original and traditional sandwiches that are hearty enough to fill your belly full. Visit the place voted “Where the Locals Eat” Monday through Sunday 10am-10pm.

Lunch and dinner served Monday through Sunday with an award-winning brunch menu on the weekends.

    OUTDOOR SPACES:
    • OUTDOOR AND INTERIOR OF HOME WILL BE FEATURED THIS YEAR!

o Outstanding River Friendly Yard – The 2015 Outstanding River Friendly Yard Award goes to Teryn and Larry Romaine for their efforts to replace non-native species with native and low maintenance plants. The Romaines wanted their landscaping to reflect plants that belong in the local ecosystems. This is inherently more Florida Friendly, as they require less fertilizer and water beyond what occurs naturally. A rain barrel provides water when there is not sufficient rain. Some grass has been retained for a pathway, which is treated with recommended fertilizer and weeding methods. Garden weeds are pulled by hand and leaves taken from the pool provide mulch and fertilizer for the plants. As for the plants themselves, some have been purchased from area vendors, and some were dug up from parking lots or areas being leveled — Teryn sees this as a challenging scavenger hunt. In addition to tending their own yard, Teryn and Larry are also Ixia Native Plant Society members who volunteer to help maintain The Native Park in Avondale.

    • Native Park – The Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will provide tours of Native Park, located at 3312 Park Street from 1:00pm to 4:00pm each day of the tour. Tour Native Park to see and learn how you can make a difference in your yard by using native plants.
The Society will hold a native plant sale on Saturday, April 25th, from 9:00am – 5:00pm. A holding area for purchased plants will be open from 9:00-6:00. All proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase additional plants for Native Park.

    BIKE TOUR
Each year we hold a Bike Tour in conjunction with the Riverside Avondale Tour of Homes because the best way to really experience the beauty of our neighborhood is by foot or by bike. The 2015 Bicycle Tour will be expertly narrated and led by local historian Jean Grimsley of Riverside Avondale Preservation. Grimsley, writer and narrator of the video “History of Riverside Avondale and RAP,” will be sharing her extensive knowledge of the neighborhood during the ride. The ride will be stopping at many of the Home Tour’s featured residences and will highlight historically important landmarks along the way.

There is no charge to participate in the ride but you will need to purchase a Home Tour ticket to enter the residences. The tour departs from City Cycle (2740 Park Street) on SATURDAY APRIL 25th at 10:00am. It takes approximately 3 hours to visit all of the homes on the tour by bike.

    FEATURED FLORISTS
People ask us every year about the beautiful arrangements placed in each home on the tour. Well, we have some wonderful florists who donate those arrangements each and every year. They meet with the homeowners, choose a room and design, and create a fabulous piece of floral art to accompany the architecture and design of the home in which they are working.
    Featured Florists for 2015:
    • American Beauty
    • Anita’s Garden Shop
    • Cypress Floral Design
    • Fresh Market
    • Gardner’s Ortega Florist
    • Jacksonville Florist, Inc.

    • Lee Hamby
    • Ruby Reds Floral and Garden
    • Whole Food’s Florist
