  • - October 1, 1932 in the fifth inning of game three of the 1932 World Series, with a count of two balls and two strikes, Babe Ruth pointed to the center field bleachers in Chicago's Wrigley Field and followed up by hitting a soaring home run high above the very spot to which he had just gestured. Did he really call his shot? Some Disagree, some eyewitnesses and Cubs pitcher Charlie Root believe he did not. Even Babe Ruth's Daughter said that he denied it, but Babe himself also claimed he did it.

    - The Little River Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center is proud to announce a new partnership with the Waccamaw Market Cooperative to bring a Farmer's Market to Little River, South Carolina.

The Little River Farmers Market will be held on Wednesdays from 1 - 6 p.m. beginning May 4th through October 26th. It will be held at the public parking lot on the Historic Little River Waterfront: 4460 Mineola Ave., Little River, SC 29566.The Historic Little River Waterfront is also home to numerous restaurants, a gift shop, dolphin cruises, and SC's only casino boats. Market goers are encouraged to make the most of their trip and take time for a meal, plan to shop after their boat ride, or pick up a local gift or souvenir.

The chamber realized the importance of this economic and community development initiative, and its potential to connect locals, visitors, and restaurants with local growers, producers, artisans and crafters. The Little River Chamber and Waccamaw Market Cooperative strongly believe that providing this farmers market will aid in enhancing the quality of life in Little River and surrounding areas by providing a necessary community activity and service that fosters social gathering and interaction.

A variety of food and artisanal vendors will be present at the Little River Farmers Market. Potentially available products include: baked goods, vegetables and fruits, seafood, flowers and plants, local honey, jams and jellies, and artisanal crafts such as soaps or body care products, wood crafts, agricultural products, and/or wools and pelts/fleeces. Those interested in being a market vendor should contact the Waccamaw Market Cooperative at 843-365-6715 ext. 124 or Stipton@WaccamawMarkets.org.

Come aboard our pirate ship and get caught up in this real life adventure. Be amazed as our crew taps into the wonder of a child’s imagination. Your child will be painted with a curly mustache or with an anchor tattoo, dressed with a lucky tea sure hunting vest and marched off to the ship.

Once aboard, the young pirates will learn the rules at sea aboard the Sea Gypsy and use a treasure map to find the sunken treasure. As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!

    N. Myrtle Beach Veterans draw attention to Mental Health issues on Oct 8th - “A Day to Change Direction”

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10804 of North Myrtle Beach is hosting a Walkathon on Saturday, October 8th, from 1 to 5 pm at the North Strand Recreation Center. The public is invited to come and walk a lap around the indoor track and show their support of this national VFW effort to raise awareness, foster community engagement, improve research and provide intervention for those affected by invisible injuries and emotional stress.

“Our national Commander, Brian Duffy, has called upon our 1.7 million members nationwide to focus attention to mental health issues affecting our veterans and members of our communities”, said Nick Camera who is Post 10804’s Junior Vice Commander and a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. “This will be the first of a number of events we are planning for the Myrtle Beach community”, said Camera. “We’ll be passing out American flag stickers to children who are attending and hope to have our own Post 10804 veterans here from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam war, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and other campaigns. No one does more for veterans than the VFW,” said Camera.

This year, VFW will partner with Give an Hour for “A Day to Change Direction” on Oct. 8 – a day in which VFW Posts can host training sessions or perform community service. A key component of the campaign is to make communities aware of the five signs of emotional suffering: personality change, agitation, withdrawal, poor self-care and hopelessness.

The Walkathon will be on the indoor track at the Rec Center which is located at 120 Highway 57 in Little River just south of the intersection with Route 9. All participants will have the opportunity to sign a petition to our representatives in Congress expressing our support for improving care and attention to mental health issues.

For more information regarding the October 8th Walkathon, contact Nick Camera at ncamera1@gmail.com

For more information regarding “A Day to Change Direction,” at the national VFW level, contact Lynn Rolf at lrolf@vfw.org

    - We invite you to this informative Rally. It is an educational event providing information to parents on how they can ensure their children’s privacy rights are protected while at school, how parents can protect their religious freedoms moral upbringing of their children, and what actions they can take to let our elected officials and other government leaders know that we do not want shared bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, or other shared facilities that have historically been separately assigned by gender.

With the Obama Administration's efforts to force open bathrooms, showers, locker rooms and changing facilities on the school systems without regard to safety, security, or the moral laws that have existed since the beginning of time, we need to understand how we can tell our elected officials and bureaucrats that we do not want this to be made law. There are other means of satisfying this small segment of our community.

Welcome to Pirate Adventures of Myrtle Beach! A place where children come to experience the magic of sailing away in search of sunken treasure.

Aboard the Sea Gypsy, we always find the treasure, we always defeat that Pirate Pete, and the children always walk away with incredible stories!
