The post-war pop-art movement, as this exhibition vibrantly demonstrates, wasn't limited to the U.S. (primarily New York) and Europe (primarily London). Pop art went viral — to put its influence in contemporary terms – and intersected globally with such art movements as Nouveau Réalisme (France), Capitalist Realism (Germany), Concretism and Neo-Concretism (Brazil), and even the Anti-Art in Japan. Exhilarating colors, images, patterns, iconography, and material juxtapositions are this exhibition's currency, with some 125 artworks by more than 100 artists extending widely beyond Warhol. Organized by the Walker, the exhibition next travels to Dallas and Philadelphia. There will be a Walker After Hours Preview Party on Friday, April 10, from 9 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $30. On Saturday, April 11, there will be several opening-day panel talks. Check online at http://www.walkerart.org for a complete schedule.

Memory Lanes Block Party 2015 - MEMORY LANES BLOCK PARTY 2015.
Ice houses off the lake and robins in the backyard mean Spring is on the way. The Memory Lanes Block Party means that Summer has officially returned to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The Seventh edition of the Block Party features a variety of musicians from the iconic surf sounds of Deke Dickerson and the Trashmen to the Synth/R&B/Pop of Tickle Torture. Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune Music critic says it “might be the best line-up yet”. We agree. Music starts at 3:45 on Saturday, 4:00 on Sunday with After Parties both nights inside on the lanes, featuring acts like L’Assassins and Hillbilly Casino.

The Outdoor shows are all ages, after party is 21+. There is a $5 admission per day, rain or shine. The Event is bike and pet friendly. Will there be a Celebrity DunkTank? Of course. Will there be satisfying food and beverage options? It’s a Party, both will be available in abundance.

18th Annual Brian Kraft Memorial 5K Run/Walk Presented by USATF Minnesota, Sponsored by TC Running Company and New Balance, Benefitting the Arnold S. Leonard Cancer Research Fund. 8:30 AM * Memorial Day * Monday, May 25th, 2015. Brian Kraft was an enthusiastic and talented runner from Bemidji, Minnesota. His running career was cut short at the age of 19 with the discovery of Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, in his back. Brian lived with cancer for 15 years, undergoing chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and countless surgical procedures. Throughout the years, Brian continued to run. He ran the lakes and parkways and raced with the local running crowd. In spite of all that life threw his way, he kept a positive attitude. Brian attributed his strength in his fight against cancer to his love of running and to the work of his long-time friend, Dr. Arny Leonard. Dr. Arnold S. Leonard and his colleagues at the University of Minnesota and the National Cancer Institute have made significant advances in cancer research in the last five years. They are working on a series of projects that reduces cancers of all kinds by boosting the central immune system by genetic engineering. This exciting new field of cancer therapy has great promise.

    TicketsWalker Art Center
    1750 Hennepin Ave. Minneapolis, MN
    612-375-7600
    Price: free with admission
