    - On Saturday April 30 The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts and Cultural Center will present a concert featuring two well known Long Island based singer- songwriters, Cathy Kreger and Caroline Doctorow.

Ms. Kreger, who grew up in Middletown, has an irresistible voice that has earned her a place on stage beside world-class acts, including Bonnie Raitt, David Bromberg, The Band, Patty Larkin, Maria Muldaur, Taj Mahal and Aztec Two-Step.

Her musical style is a unique combination of adult contemporary and old blues, with an alternative folk flair. Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary) once said “No doubt about it. She has a great voice and really has her act together.

In addition to eleven solo albums, she also released the first retrospective album of the work of folk icons Richard and Mimi Fariña called Another Country which received critical acclaim.

She tours with her folk band Caroline’s Trio and just concluded a sold-out tour of venues in Nashville, TN, North Carolina and Arkansas. She is the daughter of world-renown author E.L. Doctorow

    - The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

    - Andy and his gang return to The Buttonwood Tree on Saturday, May 7, with their funky blend of originals rock, with Steve Dedman of Plywood Cowboy.

Little is known for certain about the checkered past of these musical derelicts. What we do know is that they share ninety years of collective jamming experience, Eric on bass, Dean on the drums, Andy on guitar and voice, doing songs that range from the political to the dirty.

So come and rock with a great local band whose only stated goal is to “see how much fun we can have without getting arrested”.

Check out their music for free on YouTube and ReverbNation.

  • | 8:00pm - 10:00pm | Arts and Entertainment, Buttonwood; Comedy; Live; Entertainment
    - Connecticut’s own Darren Sechrist brings together some of New England’s top comics for a rollicking good time. A mix of headliners, seasoned comics, and new voices will be bringing the funny to the Buttonwood Tree. This is a show you don’t want to miss! This month's show features:

    Dr. Jay Sutay
Dr. Jay Sutay, the self-proclaimed “Hardest Working Pediatrician in Comedy”, is a frustrated pediatrician from South Windsor, CT, who brings his tales from the exam rooms, his experience working with kids and their parents, as well as his own tribulations as the father of two daughters to his stand up comedy. His cutting and sometimes incisive commentary about society, parenting and raising kids, has left audiences laughing.

    Beecher
Beecher performed in the Brooklyn and Boston Comedy Festivals, and was the WINNER of the Connecticut Comedy Festival. He appears on HBO's Vinyl, Gotham on Fox, and worked more recently on Orange Is The New Black, The Get Down on Netflix, and the Jim Gaffigan Show.

    Dan Rice
Dan Rice has been called 'the young Brando of comedy' by a least one person including himself. His debut album Speed 2: Cruise Control 3 is available at danricecomedy.bandcamp.com. He's amazing.

    Andrew Manning
Andrew has nothing to show for being alive for two decades--a real disappointment. Come out and here him tell you all about it.

  • | 8:00pm - 10:00pm | Anniversary, The Buttonwood Tree; Folk; Kate Callahan; Music
    - The Buttonwood Tree is proud to present two noteworthy singer/songwriters!

Kate Callahan is a beloved singer-songwriter in her home state and has held many titles. The 16th State Troubadour has been named a Woman of Character by the Hartford Courant, Best Singer-Songwriter by the Connecticut Music Awards, Featured Artist of the Year by the Greater Hartford Arts Council, and Best Solo Performer by the Hartford Advocate.

Davey O. has been described by Buffalo News critic Jeff Miers as having “a journalist’s eye for detail and poet’s ear for the well-turned observation”. Embarking on a decade-plus journey that has resulted in a collection of justly-earned, highly introspective songs, Davey crafts pure Americana that is not of the social and political consciousness, but drawn from the deep well of experience and human emotion – no hackneyed story lines, no insincere polish, just an unflinching poet’s look at life with the characters woven in seamlessly.
