  • | 1:00pm - 2:30pm | Special Interest, ecology, environment, humanities, queer
    - Dr. Eben Kirksey, Visiting Professor in the Environment and Humanities at Priceton University, presents a talk on queer multi-species families from his forthcoming book, Emergent Ecologies. In an era of global warming, contemporary writing on the environment largely focuses on doomsday scenarios. Kirksey suggests we reject such apocalyptic thinking and instead find possibilities in the wreckage of ongoing disasters, as symbiotic associations of opportunistic plants, animals, and microbes are flourishing on the 'queer' margins. The talk will be followed by a workshop (3-5pm) on multi-species pedagogy and how to build an inter-disciplinary curriculum at the crossroads of the arts, sciences, and humanities. This program is presented in collaboration with the Research Academy for University Learning

The series is funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Program partners include the Department of Anthropology, MSU ; the Department of Biology, MSU; PFLAG of

North Jersey; and Hudson Pride Connections Center.

  • | 8:00pm - 10:00pm | Shows, Festivals, and Fairs
    - Steve Solomon's two-time award-winning show, has met rave reviews and great audience acclaim throughout the country, becoming one of the longest-running one-man shows in Broadway history.Once again, see the people that we're all too familiar with: the family members that make your remember why you left home in the first place. It's a laugh-filled fest of everybody you know, have known, and some you'd want to forget but can't, all brought to life on stage. It's described as "one art lasagna, one part kreplach, and two parts Prozac," but you don't have to be Jewish or Italian to love this show. All you need is to know what it feels like to leave a family dinner with heartburn and a headache!

    - The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
