    - We’ll begin the day with a tour of the beautiful garden at Old Farm in Wenham, designed by landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman in 1912. The Colonial Revival-style garden with rectangular garden beds and gravel walks is compatible with this old New England farmhouse, whose oldest parts date to 1659. The garden features daffodils, peonies, iris, phlox, and many native asters. After lunch we will tour Long Hill. The grounds boast 5 cultivated acres containing more than 500 species of plants, more than 100 acres of woodland, an apple orchard, meadows, a children's garden, and an organic farm. Bring a bag lunch.

    Fee: $24 (Member) / $28 (Nonmember)

    - The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

    - Unity on the River is pleased to present an interactive modern music workshop with Metal Chaos Ensemble on Sunday May 22 at 12pm.

A new type of performance: The band name, Metal Chaos Ensemble, is descriptive of the intent and organization of this music. Chaos is not random. Chaotic systems, like the weather, behave dynamically according to the rule based interaction of a very large number of small components. Although the individual elements follow rules the structure of the whole and its evolution are difficult to predict. Striking a drum or a xylophone with a length of chain, or a rattle made from a bunch of small bells creates a complex sound originating from simple actions - I call this style of playing Chaotic Percussion (John Cage named this kind of attack "aggregate" and created the prepared piano to achieve it), the instruments are metal, so therefore: Metal Chaos Ensemble. The structure of the music arises from the interaction of the small components.

    - Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.
