    - Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas, by David Caldwell, Ernest Zulia, Robert Fulghum.
Tickets are $15 each, groups of 10 or more receive $2 off.

The author of All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten has crafted in this show an engaging evening of storytelling and song. Directed by Kristina Rivera, “Uh-Oh” takes a funny, heartwarming look at the struggle to balance the spirit of Christmas with the avalanche of commercialism and stress that grips our throats each December. The many delightful stories include a small immigrant child who comes trick-or-treating in a cheap Santa mask a few days before Christmas, inadvertently delivering the true meaning of the season to a grown-up with a serious case of “ croogitis;” hilarious musings about a love/hate relationship with the vibrant poinsettia that hangs on and on and on long after the holidays have ended; and a beautiful, deeply moving tribute to the winter solstice, celebrating nature’s precious annual gift of rebirth Come and enjoy this heart warming evening as the holiday season unfolds.

  • | 7:00pm - 8:30pm | Meeting, Depression And Bipolar Wellness Alliance
    - Welcome to The Depression And Bipolar Wellness Alliance. We offer support groups to all those who suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, and schizo-affective disorder. We promote wellness, provide public education, and resist stigma by raising awareness to the plight of the mentally ill. We foster a safe, compassionate environment and invite you to be vulnerable. It's o.k. to be frustrated, to cry, to hurt, or to share stressful life events. People move from illness to recovery, from isolation to lasting friendships. Many members believe that the support of peers is more beneficial than that offered by mental health professionals, or those who do not suffer from a mental illness. Try as they might they simply don't understand. If you're well or suffering your welcome here.

    - One of the most venerated saints of both Eastern and Western Christian churches, of whose life little is known. Except for the fact that he was a Bishop of Myra (now Turkey) in the fourth century, and that from early times he was noted for his charity. Santa Claus and the presentation of gifts is said to derive from St. Nicholas.

  • - On December 7, 1941 at 7:55AM (local time), "a date that will live in infamy," nearly 200 Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, long considered the US "Gibraltar of the Pacific." The raid, which lasted little more than one hour, left nearly 3,000 dead. Almost the entire US Pacific Fleet was at anchor there, and few ships escaped damage. Several were sunk or disabled, while 200 US aircraft on the ground were destroyed. The attack on Pearl Harbor brought about immediate US entry into WWII, a declaration of war being requested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and approved by Congress December 8, 1941.

It's o.k. to be frustrated, to cry, to hurt, or to share stressful life events. People move from illness to recovery, from isolation to lasting friendships. Many members believe that the support of peers is more beneficial than that offered by mental health professionals, or those who do not suffer from a mental illness. Try as they might they simply don't understand. If you're well or suffering your welcome here.

    - The Avon Lake Instrumental Music Department present a good old fashioned holiday concert on Thursday, December 8th, 2016 at 7 PM at the Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center. The concert features the Avon Lake High School Symphonic Band and Concert Band and the Learwood 7th and 8th Grade Bands. Admission is free. Goodwill donations will be graciously accepted at the doors with proceeds to benefit Avon Lake band students in all grades and buildings.

The concert will open with a long-standing tradition, the Avon Lake Herald Trumpets, in a rousing rendition of “Joy to the World”. The 8th Grade Band will perform several selections including “African Bell Carol” and the 7th Grade Band will feature “Secret Agent Sugar Plum”. The Avon Lake High School Principal, Dr. Brad Cocco, will make a guest appearance as narrator for “Twas the Night Before Christmas” as performed with the Avon Lake High School Symphonic Band. All of the young children in the audience will be asked to come up on the stage to gather around Dr. Cocco. If you have never heard this poem accompanied by music, you won’t want to miss this! The Symphonic Band will close the program with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride”. If you didn’t hear the news, the Avon Lake Symphonic Band, the premier ensemble in the Avon Lake band program, performed last April at Carnegie Hall in New York.

The Symphonic Band and Concert Band are conducted by David Eddleman, Director of Bands at Avon Lake High School. The 7th and 8th Grade Bands are conducted by Christopher Ewald, Director of Bands at Learwood Middle School.

All attendees are invited to the cookies and punch reception following the concert in the high school Commons where the Learwood and the high school jazz bands will perform. Join us on December 8th for a festive start to the season!
