Armed Forces Unified | NATL - Government- On this date in 1947, President Truman signed legislation unifying the two branches of the armed forces into the Department of Defense. The branches merged were the Army and the Navy. The Air Force was separated from the Army at the same time and made an independent force.

World War 1 Begins: Anniversary | NATL - Historical- This war is also known as the First World War or the Great War. It was a global war originating in Europe that began on July 28th,1914 and lasted until November 11th,1918. The assignation of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife by a Serbian nationalist is what provoked this war. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, which was the formal beginning of the war.
