  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest | Evening | Arts and Entertainment, Theater, Plays
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Randall P. McMurphy, a charming yet consistent rule breaker, contrives to serve a short sentence in a mental institution rather than on a prison work farm, assuming that his time spent there will be easier on him. He soon learns that this was a mistake. He clashes with Nurse Ratched, who rules the ward and its' residents with an unshakable devotion to discipline. It doesn't take long for the two of them to clash as they wrestle for control over the patients. Soon, McMurphy takes over the ward and accomplishes what the medical profession has been unable to do for 12 years: he makes a presumed deaf mute patient talk. McMurphy finds himself as the leader of a revolt that will ultimately lead him to disastrous results.

The time is 1959. The place is a seedy bar in Philadelphia. The audience is about to witness one of Billie Holiday's last performances, given four months before her death.
