    - What would you do if your original birth certificate was sealed by the courts, unobtainable, and your heart’s desire was to know where you came from? Playwright/Performer Cathy Lind Hayes, adopted at three months old by celebrated entertainer Peter Lind Hayes and his beautiful actress/singer wife Mary Healy, embarks on a decades-long journey to learn the truth about where she came from and why she was given up. Cathy debuted The Beauty, The Banshee & Me at the 2014 United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City, winning the award for Best Autobiographical Show. In this deeply passionate, humorous, and poignant solo play, her search takes many turns as she tries to make sense of how she is the daughter of two very different women. Michael Allen Angel directs the West Coast Premiere of The Beauty, The Banshee & Me at the Whitefire Theatre beginning September 15.

Cathy’s parents, Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healy were household names in the 1950’s and 60’s, popular in film, television, theatre, and radio, headlining the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas 14 times.

As wonderful and as colorful as her childhood was, Cathy felt compelled to learn the truth about where she came from. As an adult, she attempted to obtain the information from the New York Foundling Hospital, only to learn that all she was entitled to was “non-identifying information” and that state law forbid her access to her original birth certificate. It still does. Thus began a decades long search, investigating on her own, determined to meet the woman who gave her up.

The Beauty, The Banshee & Me is the humorous and sometimes heartbreaking story of that search.

Cathy Lind Hayes is proud of her third generation theatrical heritage (Grandmother Grace Hayes was a successful Vaudevillian actress/singer). Cathy made her television debut with her parents, at the age of 4, on Edward R. Murrow’s Person to Person. On stage, she originated the role of “Babet” in He Hunts at the Geffen Playhouse for which she received an Ovation Award Nomination. Los Angeles: Vera in Change Beds and Dance at the Secret Rose Theatre (World Premiere); Francine in Who Lives? at the 24th Street Theatre (World Premiere); The Tangled Snarl at the Santa Monica Playhouse, and The Shadow of a Gunman, Theatre Exchange, directed by Richard Masur, produced by Brian Dennehy. She also had the privilege of playing opposite her mother, Mary Healy, in The Glass Menagerie, in Las Vegas.

Television credits include guest starring roles on Scandal, Mad Men, NCIS Los Angeles, Grey’s Anatomy, Las Vegas, Friends, Boston Public, Strong Medicine, Undeclared, Judging Amy, ER, Seinfeld, Days of Our Lives, and series regular on Chicken Soup with Lynn Redgrave and Jackie Mason. Film credits include Broken Hart, Self-Medicated, Slightly Thicker Than Water, Dogs of Woods Hole, Drop Dead Fred, and the infamous Mommie Dearest.

The Beauty, The Banshee & Me opens for press on September 15 and continues through October 23. Performances take place Thursdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. All tickets are $25, The Whitefire Theatre is located at 13500 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91423. Did he really call his shot? Some Disagree, some eyewitnesses and Cubs pitcher Charlie Root believe he did not. Even Babe Ruth's Daughter said that he denied it, but Babe himself also claimed he did it.

  • | 6:00pm - | Local Events, Corey Smith, country, music, live
    - Tickets: click for details

The way Corey Smith sees it, he owes a debt to his fans. And it's one he is determined to repay with his 10th album, While the Gettin' Is Good. The project, released on Sugar Hill Records, marks the first time that the singer-songwriter, a wildly popular touring artist who has produced all of his past efforts, has turned over the reins to a bona fide country music producer in Keith Stegall. The result is Smith's most ambitious record yet, as well as a return on the investment made by the fans who have supported him since his first album in 2003.

"A lot of start-up acts are using fan-funded programs to finance their record. That's what my whole career has been: Kickstarter before Kickstarter. When my fans show up and buy a ticket and a t-shirt, they're investing in what I'm doing," says Corey. "It's my responsibility to invest it wisely and give them the best album I can. That's what led me to While the Gettin' Is Good."

Now, however, Corey is focused squarely on the future. As the new album title suggests, he's ready to make a determined grab at country's brass ring while the gettin' is good. And with Keith Stegall and Sugar Hill Records behind him, the gettin' has never been better. As the perseverant Corey is fond of saying, "There is more than one way to skin a cat in country music."

Clint Black is back.  The multi-million selling country mega-star is releasing On Purpose, his first full-length album of new songs in a decade and he’s doing it on his own terms.

“To me, it’s only a ‘comeback’ in that I’m putting out something new,” says the award-winning singer-songwriter. “As someone who has never stopped working, I don’t see me as having gone away, as I tour extensively, write and produce for television, films as well as other artists."

During his hiatus Black was courted by the majors (labels). All of them wanted him to sing other writers’ songs, but Black insisted on writing his own, as well as to being his own producer.

Black’s On Purpose compiles a strikingly diverse group of his self-produced songs. His ballads “Only One Way to Live,” “Stay Gone,” “Breathing Air” and “The Last Day” have never cut deeper, while his spirited “Beer” and “Better and Worse” are among the most upbeat songs he has ever crafted. “Time For That,” “Doing It Now For Love” and “Summertime Song” are catchy examples of how groove-soaked his music can be.
