~Sheilani Alix Trio ~
Friday Night, August 22nd, 2008
8pm to 10pm
Bella Vino is very excited to have the Sheilani Alix Trio play for you, as the last time I heard them play was their last Friday night at Prima's in Walnut Creek!
You may have heard them preform, since The Kurt Ribak Trio  was Prima's Friday Night Band for 4 Years and Sheilia would be a guest vocalist now and then!

The Sheilani Alix Trio performs jazz standards from the 1920-1940’s with the occasional mix of Blues, R&B/Soul (and maybe a jazzed up country tune or three!).

SheilaSheilani’s formal musical training was from age 5-17 studying classical piano with the Vallejo Conservatory of Music under the Music Teachers Association of California.  Her jazz influence stems from her mother constantly playing records by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and others since she was a little girl.  Sheilani has played with the Dan Damon Trio and the Kurt Ribak Trio at venues around the Bay Area including The Baltic, The Two-Bird Café, The Miramar at Half Moon Bay, and jazz services at the First United Methodist Church in Point Richmond. As a soloist, she also records original music and has performed with other artists including the Contra Costa Songwriters Project and the vocal/guitar quartet, the Madhatters, at a list of venues including the Bazaar Café, the Coast Café, Ashkenaz, and the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts. kurt

Kurt has played with many prominent musicians. Among them are jazz/blues vocalist Faye Carol, new music composer Paul Dresher, Broadway singer Lillias Brooks, JC Hopkins (writer and former bandleader for Norah Jones), guitarist Adam Levy, sideman with Tracy Chapman and Norah Jones, and with Ralph Carney, best known for his work with Tom Waits. Kurt’s also played with prominent non-jazz musicians, including Danny Carnahan of Wake the Dead and Eric and Suzy Thompson, who have received international acclaim for their performances of bluegrass and Cajun music. Kurt has had his compositions played by a variety of groups, including Section 8 Project, Make A Circus, and others. Since 2001, he has been leading his own group under his own name. The self-titled CD, 'Kurt Ribak Trio,' featuring Kurt's compositions was released on Rodia Records in April 2005. The CD gets regular airplay on KCSM. The next Kurt Ribak Trio CD, 'more,' is due out in late Spring 2007. To hear a sample and read more about Kurt, click here!
