Ochsner St. Martin Hospital is an acute care hospital serving St. Martin Parish and surrounding communities. Founded as Gary Memorial more than 50 years ago, the hospital honors a strong tradition of providing high quality of care close to home.

The hospital offers a full range of services and award-winning care to meet your needs.

Why Choose Ochsner St. Martin?

Ochsner St. Martin Hospital is committed to delivering high quality, affordable and innovative care to the people of Breaux Bridge. Known for its exceptional patient experience, the 25-bed hospital ranks in the 93rd percentile for both inpatient and emergency department satisfaction and in the 99th percentile for outpatient satisfaction.

Our patient satisfaction scores reflect our sincere dedication to quality care. Ochsner St. Martin Hospital features the only emergency department available in all of St. Martin Parish. As an alternative to the emergency department, Ochsner St. Martin offers primary care through a walk-in community health clinic.

In 2021, Ochsner St. Martin Hospital completed an $18 million, 30,000-square-foot expansion that more than doubled the size of the hospital while enhancing our ability to offer the latest in patient-care technologies and more services than ever before. With its modern updates, new equipment and amenities, patients can now receive advanced treatment and care as they recover.

Upgrades included:

  • 25 new patient rooms outfitted with special display screens that provide real-time chart updates and sync with your records.
  • A nursing unit equipped to accommodate patients with varying levels of care.
  • A new Open-Air MRI machine, so that patients with disabilities, claustrophobia or those that exceed the size limit of a traditional MRI scanner, can get the imaging they need without the added stress.
  • A new surgical suite equipped with modern infection prevention technology that allows for surgery and heart catheterization procedures on site.

Ochsner St. Martin was also named a 2021 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare. The Best Places to Work Healthcare Award was created to recognize companies who continuously strive to improve their work environment and increase employee engagement, satisfaction and retention through innovative changes in the workplace.

Our Services

24-hour emergency department:

Ochsner St. Martin Hospital maintains a 24-hour emergency room with a laboratory, CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound and respiratory therapy. Patients who do not have life-threatening health issues are sent to our Fast Track area, which helps them get treated more quickly.

Our hospital also has a shared emergency program with Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. Cases in which a higher level of care is needed, patients are transferred to Ochsner Lafayette General or another facility if requested.

The emergency room provides appropriate care from qualified staff and related services as required to ensure the best possible outcome. While the emergency room is prepared for medical emergencies, our community health clinic provides treatment for common illnesses and minor injuries.

Community health clinic

Our Community Health Clinic is a great option for medical needs that can’t wait for an appointment. While the emergency room treats patients based on the severity of their condition, the Community Health Clinic sees patients on a first-come, first-served basis with limited wait time.

The Community Health Clinic is conveniently located at 1555 Gary Drive, Suite C, in the physician's office building behind the hospital.

We take appointments and walk-ins

The clinic is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m.-noon. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call 337-909-2460. Appointments are also available through MyOchsner. You can also use MyOchsner to get test results, message your doctor, schedule appointments and easily access your medical history online.

When should I go to the Community Health Clinic?

The Community Health Clinic is usually best for these conditions:

  • A cough or cold that doesn’t get better in several days, or a cough that gets worse and is accompanied by fever.
  • Migraines
  • Low-grade fevers
  • Rash, especially with fever
  • Minor broken bones and sprains
  • Cuts that might need stitches
  • Minor burns
  • Severe or constant vomiting or diarrhea
  • Animal and insect bites
  • Allergies and sinus issues
  • Headache or stomachache
  • Earache
  • Pink eye
  • Painful urination

Hospitalist program

Under the direction of Medical Director Dr. Chad Heinen, our hospitalist program supports our emergency room and inpatient unit. Hospitalists are experienced internal medicine and family medicine physicians who coordinate and manage the care of our inpatients. Our hospitalists guide your care and communicate with your physician on your condition and status. Hospitalists also offer recommendations for continuing your care after discharge. If you don’t have a physician, a hospitalist can step into that role during your stay.

Inpatient acute/skilled nursing unit

The skilled nursing unit is an extended-stay program for patients who are in a transition phase of illness or recovery and no longer require focused care. The unit provides round-the-clock care that helps restore health and independence to patients who are ready for discharge but need a little extra care. The skilled nursing unit offers comprehensive rehabilitation services to patients whose needs cannot be met in an inpatient hospital setting or at home.

Laboratory

At Ochsner St. Martin, our goal is to provide lab testing and blood draw services closer to home as a convenience to the patient, families and their providers.

Our laboratory provides services to St. Martin Parish and surrounding areas. Our staff conducts accurate, reliable and prompt performance of tests and reporting of results while providing the highest level of patient satisfaction and safety. If you need a lab test not offered at Ochsner St. Martin, OLGMC will fulfill those services.
