Nose Specialist & Treatments Near You in Boise, ID

A properly functioning nose is very important! Ear, Nose, and Throat specialists are called Otolaryngologists. They provide a wide range of medical and surgical care for conditions centered in the nose because the nasal passages are connected to the ears and throat.

SINUS INFECTION TREATMENT AND SINUSITIS IN BOISE

Nasal problems can affect the sense of smell, breathing, and well-being. For example, sinus headaches are one of the most common complaints presented to an ENT because irritants in the air have grown considerably with urban air pollutants. Sinusitis inflames the membranes inside the sinuses, the cavities above the nose. When this happens, an ENT doctor may prescribe antibiotics. If the sinusitis is ongoing, lasting four weeks or more, the doctor will treat for an acute bacterial infection. A sinus infection can become complicated. This is when a visit to an otolaryngologist is advised.

INABILITY TO BREATHE THROUGH THE NOSE

Sometimes a stuffy nose just signifies a cold. But, when the stuffiness is chronic, with no other cold symptoms, it is time to investigate the problem. A visit to an ENT doctor will determine if an ongoing infection is causing a stuffy nose or whether nasal polyps or a deviated septum are the culprits. Any of these issues can be addressed by an ENT specialist.

NOSE INJURIES

Falls. Sports and recreation activities. Accidents. These can all be causes of nose injuries. Most nose injuries involve bruising, swelling, and pain, whether or not the nose is broken. Applying ice to reduce the swelling and taking over-the-counter pain medication is usually all that is required to resolve a typical nose injury.

MORE ABOUT NOSE INJURY TREATMENT ->

SNORING / SLEEP APNEA

Snoring is a noise produced during sleep that originates in the back of the throat or nose. Snoring occurs when the muscles in the back of the mouth, tongue, and throat relax while sleeping, which narrows or blocks the airway. Breathing causes your uvula (soft palate) to vibrate and knock against the back of the throat, resulting in the snoring sound. Snoring can also be a sign of a more severe problem known as obstructive sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, the relaxed muscles at the back of the throat cause the throat to close, which stops breathing, typically from 20 seconds to up to three minutes.

CLEFT PALATE / CLEFT LIP

Cleft palate/cleft lip are the most common types of congenital disabilities. About one baby in 2,000 is born with a cleft palate, and one in 1,000 is born with a cleft lip. Cleft palate/cleft lips occur when the two sides of either the roof of the mouth (palate) or the lips fail to fuse together in the embryo. The cause of this congenital disability is unknown.

MOUTH SORES

There are a variety of sores that can occur in or around the mouth. Most are benign, but some may be indicative of cancer. Common types of mouth sores include canker sores, cold sores, candidiasis, white patches, leukoplakia, and oral cancer.

MORE ABOUT MOUTH SORES ->

NASAL/SINUS POLYPS

Nasal or sinus polyps are soft, benign growths found inside the lining of the sinuses or the nasal cavity. They can grow singly but often grow in clusters and resemble tiny grapes. They are usually found on both sides of the person’s nose. Nasal polyps can be caused when the lining of the nose and sinuses are chronically inflamed.

MORE ABOUT NASAL/SINUS POLYPS ->

ALLERGY TESTING

A large number of nose-related discomfort is due to allergic reactions to some substance or chemical. An ENT doctor can do allergy testing, and if the problem is allergy-related, direct a patient to an allergy specialist.

RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY FOR THE NOSE

Plastic surgery of the nose invokes a picture of someone reducing the size of the nose, or changing its appearance. An ENT may be qualified to do cosmetic surgery of the nose and reconstructive surgery as well. A surgeon may remove polyps from the nose and correct a deviated septum. Sometimes the nose may need reconstruction due to cancer surgery or a traumatic accident. A nose is just a nose until it becomes a problem. An ENT doctor specializes in helping people breathe easier.

EARWAX REMOVAL NEAR YOU

Cerumen, commonly known as earwax, plays a crucial role in the ear’s natural defense mechanism against dust and dirt, preventing them from reaching the eardrum and lowering the risk of ear infections. Ordinarily, dust and dirt get ensnared in the earwax, subsequently drying up and naturally exiting the ear. Nonetheless, some individuals encounter an accumulation of earwax, leading to a blockage that diminishes hearing and necessitates earwax removal. Those who use hearing aids or earplugs are more susceptible to earwax blockages. Moreover, employing a cotton swab for ear cleaning can contribute to the build-up of earwax. (It is strongly advised to avoid using a cotton swab for ear cleaning, as it may puncture the eardrum).

Get Help From Your Sinus Troubles

Sinuses are the air-filled spaces or cavities located within the bones of the face and skull. They are lined with a mucous membrane and are connected to the nasal passages through small openings. There are actually several pairs of sinuses located within the human skull including the maxillary sinuses, frontal sinuses, ethmoid sinuses, and sphenoid sinuses, each is located in a different part of the head.

Your sinuses play an important role in various bodily functions, including:

  • Air Filtration: Sinuses help filter and humidify the air we breathe, trapping particles and preventing them from reaching the lungs.
  • Voice Resonance: The sinuses contribute to the resonance of the voice by affecting the passage of air through the nasal and oral cavities.
  • Facial Bone Structure: Sinuses contribute to the structure of the skull and may help reduce the weight of the skull.

The mucous membrane lining the sinuses produces mucus, which helps moisten the nasal passages and trap foreign particles, such as dust and bacteria. The cilia (hair-like structures) in the sinuses move in coordinated waves to propel the mucus toward the nasal passages, where it can be expelled or swallowed.

There are a number of problems that can occur with your sinuses. You could be dealing with chronic sinusitis, a deviated septum, or something else. No matter the issue you need a sinus doctor near you that you can trust with an excellent reputation. Dr. Don J. Beasley and the team here at Boise ENT Sinus & Snoring Specialists are proud to offer top-notch care for our patients dealing with sinus trouble. The Eustachian tubes will open when you sneeze, swallow, or yawn, but occasionally a Eustachian tube may become plugged. This is called Eustachian tube dysfunction and causes sounds to become muffled, or your ear to feel full. It may or may not include pain in the ear as well. When this occurs it is important to speak with an ENT doctor near you about treatment options. “Dr Beasley was amazing and experienced. I went in to see him about issues I have had all my life. He diagnosed me on the spot and had me in surgery before weeks end! I was SO impressed. In one week, a 50 year old problem was gone!”

“Dr. Beasley and his team were exceptionally professional and hospitable. The office is clean and very up-to-date. Dr. Beasley took the time to learn about my issue, explain to me what’s going on, and present the options to me. It was a very pleasant experience.”

“I have been a RN for 38 years. I have seen and visited many doctor offices and observed a multitude of bedside manner approaches throughout my career. I usually don’t write their performances online, but from the moment I walked into Dr. Beasley’s office, I knew it was different from others. Everyone I encountered was so pleasant and accommodating. I have been into this office several times now and have never waited more than 5 to 10 minutes to get back to be seen. On my first visit to his office, Dr. Beasley, recommended a CT scan. Their office got me scheduled for an appointment two days later. Within two hours of the CT scan, I was called to say they had received my scan and were able to set up an appointment for me to be seen that week to discuss the results. The following week I was scheduled for my procedure. Dr. Beasley, had worked his magic to get me into a different surgical center that would be in my insurance Network. Postop, his PA Dylan, discussed at length with me the results of my surgery, what it had entailed and answered all of my questions without seeming rushed. I cannot get over the efficiency and expertise of this office! Since this experience, I have set up two family members of mine to see Dr. Beasley. I would recommend this office to anyone who needs an intelligent, thorough and proficient ENT, as well as an incredible bedside manner. Yes, you can have both and you should. I highly recommend Boise ENT and Dr. Beasley,”
