  • | 10:00am - 4:00pm | Local Events, Quilt Gala; Starstruck; Contest; Folklife; History; Education; Museum; Tour; Fun
    - The Horry County Museum Quilt Gala has become a fixture on the Grand Strand. Started in 1994, the first Gala was held on the lawn of the Horry County Courthouse. Over the years the Gala has continued to grow and is now held at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground Recreation Center in Myrtle Beach.
Many different types of quilts are displayed at the Gala which represent a variety of techniques and skill levels. Categories include large quilts, medium quilts, small quilts, and a challenge quilt. The challenge category changes each year and is based on preset restrictions. The 2019 challenge theme is “Starstruck”. Quilters in this category are challenged to create a wall hanging that includes at least one recognizable eight-pointed star using any color palette or technique that they like.
Winners from each category will be voted on by the public and will receive a ribbon. The blue ribbon winners from each category will be displayed in the Horry County Museum during the month of March.
In addition to displaying quilts, the Gala also hosts demonstrators, speakers, and a featured quilter, Pat Sprecher. Local and regional vendors will also be on hand to support, consult, and aid the quilter with various quilting products.
The Museum is grateful to have the support of local quilt guilds for many years to aid in the management, set-up, and break down of the Gala.
The 25th Annual Quilt Gala will be held Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd from 10 am-4 pm. Admission is $5.00 per person; Museum Members and children 12 and under are free.
For more information about the 25th Annual Quilt Gala and a schedule of events please contact the Horry County Museum at 843-915-5320, e-mail hcgmuseum@horrycounty.org, or visit our website at click for details.

  • | 4:00pm - | Local Events, Inlet Provision Company, Hot Fish Club, Dining Murrells Inlet
    - The wait is over!
    Now open in Murrells Inlet!
“Good Food and Bad Advice.” Such is the motto for this one-of-a-kind restaurant that’s in the planning stages as we go to press. Located beside Hot Fish Club on the southern end of Murrells Inlet, it’s owned and operated by the HFC family – but it’s a totally different experience. The menu is quirky, to say the least, with a focus on affordability – most items run between $4 and $12 – and fresh, locally sourced meats, seafood and produce whenever possible. The team is still working out the particulars, but the choices are definitely different and change frequently to keep things interesting.

The interior has a rustic feel … just inside there’s a nook with Inlet-style provisions for sale … souvenir mugs, t-shirts, beer cozies, vintage fishing rods, gear and the like … it’s quaint old fishing village meets new age funky. The spacious interior is cozy with lots of windows that showcase beautiful views of the marsh. Outside, an expansive waterfront deck affords panoramic views of the creek. Birders can enjoy pelicans, egrets, wood storks and even the occasional eagle. Access the south end’s Marsh Walk and crab dock from the deck, too.

The food. This menu is all over the place. Dips and Bits feature local peanuts boiled in a locally brewed beer, spicy cubed hummus fries, flash-fried and topped with English cucumber, tomato, onion and Tzatziki sauce toasted sesame and garlic spicy edamame, flash-boiled in the pod are interesting. Small plates and apps are plentiful and inventive. Samples include chicken and waffles – “Provision-style” fresh chicken tenders dipped in Belgian waffle batter, deep-fried and served with maple syrup, honey Dijon and pork belly blackeye peas or Drunk’d Up Shrimp, flash-fried and tossed in Makers Mark Bourbon BBQ sauce and served over lettuce. Soups and salads feature fresh fruits, vegetables and cheeses in delightful combinations.

Creative burgers and sandwiches are served with a choice of “Sideways Fries,” (Provision-style beer-battered potatoes that are a cross between chips and fries) or zucchini slaw. Specialty seafood platters, fresh fish and Inlet steam pots full of shellfish, corn on the cob and potatoes as well as peel and eat shrimp are available. Sides include Lowcountry collards and a loaded baked potato cake. All desserts are scratch-made with with local milk and homemade ingredients and served in Mason jars. Tasty craft beers and cocktails are not to be missed.

Take time to explore and expect the unexpected from a restaurant where one of the items offered is described as “kinda weird, but tasty.” Lowcountry looks forward to this new venture from our friends at the Hot Fish Club. With a broad menu, pub-inspired atmosphere and an awesome atmosphere, the IPC is shaping up to be a mighty fun place to hang.

  • | Government, Politics, Federal Government Shutdown, Liberty Tax, Unpaid or Furloughed Federal Workers
    - Liberty Tax To Provide Immediate Relief For MB Area Federal Workers
Furloughed or Working Without Pay Due to Government Shutdown
Pre-approved Easy Advance Of $500 and Tax Preparation Fee Discount

Liberty Tax has expanded its Easy Advance* program to offer Federal government workers furloughed in MB area or working without pay due to the government shutdown access to an immediate tax refund advance of $500 with no interest or fees if they have an expected net Federal tax refund of at least $1,001**. In addition, Liberty Tax is offering a $25 discount on their tax preparation fee***.

Liberty Tax customers in MB Area affected by the government shutdown who apply for an Easy Advance in any amount will be approved for a minimum advance of $500 without the normal loan approval process, or for a higher amount applied for, if certain underwriting criteria are met.

“Offering furloughed federal workers pre-approved access to this minimum refund advance program is the right thing to do – and we’re honored to help them meet their essential needs and ease some anxiety,” Nicole Ossenfort, CEO of Liberty Tax, said. “Because these funds are typically available within 24 hours of approval, families can have much-needed money in their hands quickly.”

Liberty Tax professionals can also help government workers furloughed or working without pay due to the government shutdown understand tax reform and the changes the new tax law may have for their tax return, tax deductions, and tax credits. Liberty Tax is trusted by millions for its accurate tax preparation and its promise to get taxpayers the lowest tax liability or the biggest refund to which they are entitled.

The partial government shutdown, the longest in history, has left some 800,000 federal workers without paychecks. Many federal government workers have said they live paycheck-to-paycheck, and they are concerned about how to pay their mortgage and other monthly bills. The Easy Advance can be the perfect solution to help eligible families fill the gap.

“Every year, new and returning Liberty Tax customers choose the Easy Advance because it gives them quicker access to money they need, and the partial federal government shutdown expands this option to an even larger community,” Ossenfort said.

To find a local Liberty Tax office, call 866-871-1040 or visit click for details. Liberty Tax does take appointments; however, they are not necessary.

*An Easy Advance is a loan secured by and paid back with your tax refund and is offered by Republic Bank & Trust Company, member FDIC, to eligible taxpayers. Loan amount options are based on your expected Federal refund less authorized fees. If approved for an Easy Advance, a Finance Charge may apply depending on your loan amount. Easy Advance proceeds are typically available within 24 hours of IRS acceptance of tax return or within 24 hours for those filing before the IRS start date however, if direct deposit is selected it may take additional time for your financial institution to post the funds to your account. Visit your Liberty Tax office to learn about the cost, timing and availability of all filing and product options. Valid at participating locations. Valid Jan. 21-Feb. 28, 2019.

**To qualify for an Easy Advance, expected 2018 Federal tax refund must be at least $1,001 after any authorized fees are deducted. Easy Advance amounts of $500 to $6,250 could be available, depending on the expected refund amount less authorized fees. If customer chooses to apply for a loan of $2,500 or more, a Finance Charge will apply if approved. Applicant must be over 18 years of age, have a physical address in the U.S., present acceptable collateral of a sufficient expected federal refund minus authorized fees, and Federal furlough or required work without current pay must be verifiable.
***Application for an Easy Advance not required to get discount on tax preparation fee.

This drew unwanted attention from groups like the KKK, who attacked Charlie’s Place one night in 1950.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 27th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.

As the crew searches for clues, they discover that Pirate Pete, the smiliest, most rotten, pirate on the Seven Seas, is lurking nearby, and he has something our brave crew needs. Off we go into battle with our famous water cannons! Will the crew defeat Pirate Pete and find the sunken treasure!?!

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
