  • | 9:00am - 12:00pm | Kids, Summer camp, musical, performance
    - NOTE: This camp has limited spaces for campers. Every person who registers for this camp will receive a role, so once the roles are gone, the camp will be closed.

Based on the cherished New Line Cinema hit, Elf JR. features songs by Tony Award-nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin. Campers will audition, learn lines, blocking and choreography, help with props and sets, and perform the show at the end of the week. This is an intensive experience for teenagers only, led by Director Ryan Shelton and Musical Director Levi Burke.

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

On Friday, campers will stay a little late--the performance starts at 4 p.m.! Friends and family are welcome. Free admission.

    - Exhibit: Tin Dollhouses of Post-World War II America: 1940s – 1970s. Pressed steel (also known as tin) dollhouses were first introduced in 1948 and dominated the 1950s, remaining popular until the 1970s. The economic boom after WWII, an active steel industry, and the introduction of hard plastic, made mass production of tin dollhouses and plastic furniture possible. The first metal houses on the retail scene originated from ideas used in dollhouses that had been constructed in the late 19th century, resembling the early lithographed models of wooden or paperboard dollhouses. Included is a 1962 house that has its own fallout shelter.
    Exhibit runs through Sept. 9th.

    - The Museum of Miniature Houses features the Sahlberg, an elaborate miniature house measuring 49 inches tall, 72 inches wide and 20 inches deep that has unexpectedly become available for our museum to display. Jimmy Landers and Carl Sahlberg are the main architects. Seven other miniature artisans collaborated on the project, including Linda Orleff of Lighting Bug Ltd. who designed the wall sconces, a two-tier chandelier, and other fixtures, and Barbara Sabia who custom-made the 10-inch high stained glass windows in the library.

Jimmy named this new house the Sahlberg in honor of Carl Sahlberg of Creative Reproductions 2 Scale who created the cabinetry and wired the entire house for electricity. A unique part of the wiring system is that the house is lit with a DC power source instead of an AC transformer. Carl explains, "The DC power source works better. It has a constant current which makes all the lights last longer and being direct current, allow one to use LEDs and newer electronic components such as remote controls. We have over 500 LED bulbs."

Jimmy has been building houses in miniature for many years. His pieces have included the Victorian Helmerich House, the Colonial (Brandywine) dollhouse, the 1900 series of storefronts, the Flatiron Building, the 1909 River Valley Hardware Store, and many others.

The Sahlberg is expected to remain on display through January 6, 2019.

    - Every year in July, the town of Peru puts on Circus Festival Week. Back in the early 1900s, Peru was a wintering-over spot for many of the traveling Big Top shows around the country, including professional performers, such as clown Emmett Kelly and animal trainer Clyde Beatty. When town leaders wanted to develop tourism in Peru in the 1950s, they started the circus with a dozen kids.

Today 200 of its brightest, most hard-working youth perform in 11 shows for thousands of people in a full-fledged circus. This year’s dates are July 14-21(Shows), July 16-21(Festival) and July 21 for the parade! Join us in celebration of our Circus Heritage for a week filled with fun and excitement! Downtown Peru converts to an amusement park filled with rides, games, food, and entertainment for all. Take in a fun filled circus performance, a great meal, local entertainment, arts & crafts, games, rides, and more!

    - NOTE: This camp has limited spaces for campers. Every person who registers for this camp will receive a role, so once the roles are gone, the camp will be closed.
