More About Amherst Library with Restrictions

Beginning Monday, July 6, Amherst Public Library will be open to the public for Grab and Go check out service.

In addition to our Curbside Pickup service, patrons will now be able to enter the building to quickly grab and check out materials. Please note that the first hour of every day is reserved for elderly and vulnerable patrons. For the health and safety of our patrons and staff, we will have several restrictions and protocols in place. Please see below for details.

Monday - Thursday
Seniors/Vulnerable Patrons: 9am – 10am
General Public: 10am – 8:30pm
Curbside Pickup: 1pm – 7pm

Friday and Saturday
Seniors/Vulnerable Patrons: 10am – 11am
General Public: 11am – 5pm
Curbside Pickup: 1pm – 4:30pm

Face masks/coverings are required to be worn while inside the building by all individuals over age 2.

If you are not able or do not wish to wear a mask, you may still take advantage of our convenient Curbside Pickup and telephone/email Reference services.

Please wash or sanitize your hands upon entry. Public hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the library and we encourage patrons to use them. Public restrooms will be open.

Occupancy is limited. For this reason, we ask that patrons limit the number of people in their parties as much as possible and plan to exit the building after checking out materials.

Please maintain a six-foot distance from others while inside the library. Floor markings will be in place to assist with this at the Circulation and Reference Desks.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over age 18 at all times while inside the building. The Children’s Area will remain closed until further notice. Toys, children’s computers, and the iPad station are not available for use.

Meeting rooms, work spaces, tables, and seating will not be available at this time.

Limited services will continue to be provided by appointment. Please call 440-988-4230 to make an appointment for Individual Computer Sessions, Notary Services, and Faxing Services. An appointment is required for these services, and same-day appointments may be available.

No food or drink is allowed in the building. Water fountains will remain closed until further notice.

No late fines will be accrued at this time. If you have existing fines from before March 2020, you will be able to pay with cash or credit card inside the building. Checks can also be mailed to 221 Spring Street, Amherst, OH 44001 if you do not wish to enter the building.

All library programs, including storytime, will continue to be offered digitally. No in-person programs will be held until further notice.

The outside Book Drops will be available at all hours, beginning Monday, June 29. Please return all materials to the outside Book Drops. Do not bring them inside the building, and do not hand them to staff. Returned materials will remain quarantined for a minimum 72-hour period before being processed. No late fees will be charged. If you have items that will not fit in the outside Book Drops, please call the library at 440-988-4230 to arrange returns.
