More About Hike & Learn: Bryophytes and Lichens of CSNM with Lichenologist John Villella

On Friday August 3, join hike leader and lichenologist John Villella for an informative talk in the Ashland Outdoor Store. John will introduce some of the bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) and lichens that make the Monument unique.

On Saturday morning (August 4, 9-2:00 pm), we will hike to Pilot Rock, identifying bryophytes and lichens along the way. The Friday presentation and the Saturday hike will be a introduction to the major groups found on rocks and trees with a focus on the unique flora of the CSNM.

Registration is required to attend the Saturday hike.

More About this Event Poster: Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument

The Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument was established in 2000 and expanded in 2017 for its immense biodiversity. The Monument protects over 100,000 acres of forest and grasslands at the junction of the Cascade, Siskiyou, and Klamath Mountain Ranges in southwestern Oregon. The convergence of three geologically distinct mountain ranges resulted in an area with remarkable biological diversity and a tremendously varied landscape. The Friends is a nonprofit organization that supports the protection, restoration, and conservation of the Monument, and our public events aim to educate the public about its biodiversity.
