Hike & Learn TALK: Fall Birds of Cascade-Siskiyou NM with Shannon Rio

More About Hike & Learn TALK: Fall Birds of Cascade-Siskiyou NM with Shannon Rio

Because of its incredible biodiversity, a wide spectrum of species can be seen in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument all year-round. On Friday, October 11, Shannon Rio, the Klamath Bird Observatory Board President, will discuss the behaviors, songs and calls, and identifying traits of bird species commonly found in the Fall. Join us at the Geos Institute in Ashland for this evening lecture. Come and enjoy the talk, even if you are not going on the hike.

The Saturday field trip (October 12, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm) will take us through high mountain forests and meadows as we walk the Pacific Crest Trail from Highway 66 to Little Hyatt Lake. At the lake, we will stop to eat lunch and to look for water birds. Our return walk will take us along a public road back to our starting place.

Registration is required to attend the Saturday hike.

More About this Event Poster: Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument

The Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument was established in 2000 and expanded in 2017 for its immense biodiversity. The Monument protects over 100,000 acres of forest and grasslands at the junction of the Cascade, Siskiyou, and Klamath Mountain Ranges in southwestern Oregon. The convergence of three geologically distinct mountain ranges resulted in an area with remarkable biological diversity and a tremendously varied landscape. The Friends is a nonprofit organization that supports the protection, restoration, and conservation of the Monument, and our public events aim to educate the public about its biodiversity. Come join us!
