More About National Night Out Day

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It takes place on the first Tuesday in August.

National Night Out aims to enhance relationships between neighbors and law enforcement to help make our neighborhoods safer and bring back a true sense of community. Millions of neighbors take part in the national holiday from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.

National Night Out was first established in 1984 to promote “police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make… neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live,” according to the National Night Out website.
