More About “Pattern, Power, Chaos and Quiet” Nature Inspired Exhibit

“Pattern, Power, Chaos and Quiet,” a nature-inspired group exhibition curated by D. Dominick Lombardi.

The exhibit explores the diversity of natural world through the work of eight artists. Gloria Garfinkel, Brenda Giegrich, Sandra Gottlieb, John Lyon Paul, Nolan Preece, Mark Sharp, Susan Sommer and Martin Weinstein each bring their own sensibilities, depicting the exquisite beauty and strength of nature’s talents.

“While the degree of human impact on the natural world is hotly debated, research is clear that exposure to nature contributes to our wellbeing,” said Robbin Zella, Executive Director of the Housatonic Museum of Art. “Being in nature is restorative, and this exhibition seeks to provide a respite from the continuous demands of life, connecting us to each other and to the larger world through the work of eight talented artists.”

The exhibit inspires feelings of awe, wonder and amazement. Through a variety of mediums the artists present the diversity of flora and fauna they represent, while united by their creativity and admiration for the natural world.

Artist Sandra Gottlieb, whose cloud study series is included in the show, has also been photographing seascape images since 1996. “The intention is to explore the ever-changing beauty of the sea and sky at each fleeting moment…inviting viewers to connect to their own memories of the universal, timeless quality of the experience at the edge of the sea.”

Pattern, Power, Chaos and Quiet will be on view through March 31, 2018. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, Thursdays until 7pm, Saturday, 9am – 3pm.
