White Mountain National Forest Trail Steward Annual Training, 2018

More About White Mountain National Forest Trail Steward Annual Training, 2018

Please join us for our annual trailhead and backcountry steward training session on April 7th. Registration will take place from 8 - 8:30 a.m. where we will handle check-in and paper work The morning (Trailhead Steward) session will focus on the background and structure of our programs as well as ways to approach the public for a quick informative interaction. The afternoon (Backcountry Steward) session provides additional training for those interested in taking those messages on the trail while hiking and performing light maintenance tasks. Those signing up for the afternoon session must attend the morning session, you are encouraged to attend both.

Speakers from U. S. Forest Service administration, law enforcement, NH Fish and Game, NH State Parks as well as seasoned stewards from last year provide an engaging and interactive discussion of White Mountain HikeSafe recommendations, search and rescue incidents as well as how stewards help to reduce these incidents and their stories.

This session is required for all those wanting to volunteer as a steward in 2018. These sessions provide the knowledge, and skills necessary to engage hikers in a brief discussion about hiking safely. While this training is required to volunteer during the season, attendance at training does not equate a commitment to become a volunteer for the season.
