We will meet in the Book Club Room to discuss Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. This story is about middle-schooler Roy Eberhardt, new kid in Coconut Cove in South Florida, who teams up with some classic children's lit outsiders to save the home of some tiny burrowing owls. The stage is set for a confrontation between right-thinking kids and slow-witted, wrongheaded civic boosters who value money over an endangered species. The story is full of offbeat humor, buffoonish yet charming supporting characters, and genuinely touching scenes of children enjoying the wildness of nature, along with improbable plot twists. Registration is required and begins Monday, June 25, online, in person, or by calling 317-844-3363. A copy of the book will be available at the Children’s Desk to registered pairs beginning June 25. Space is limited, so register early! This program is for girls ages 9-12 and their mothers or female caregivers.
