Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve

For current sledding conditions call: 708.946.2216.
Sledding tubes are available for rent at Plum Creek Nature Center, 27064 S. Dutton Rd., Beecher, IL.
Renters must be 18 years old and bring a valid driver's license or state ID.
Tubes may be limited to one tube per license/ID. Tubes are rented until 4 p.m. and must be returned to the Nature Center by 4:30 p.m.
Activity Fee: $1/tube

Hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular winter pastimes along the lakeshore trails. Glenwood Dunes Trail is the best option for cross-country skiing with 6.4 miles of interconnecting loops traveling through gently rolling wooded dunes. Advanced skiers can enjoy the three-mile Tolleston Dunes Trail, which features some difficult hills that can be tricky to navigate. Rentals are not available.

*Lake County Parks Department sledding hills and cross-country skiing trails are open through March, weather permitting. Rentals at Oak Ridge Prairie and Stoney Run close the last day of February, and weekday rentals are closed at Stoney Run when schools are in session. Families should call after 9 a.m. to see if the hills are open for sledding or if there is enough snow for cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing boots, skis and poles are available for rental, but families must bring their own tube or plastic sleds for sledding.
