An annual springtime tradition; experience a nine-mile canoe and kayak race from the Harpersfield Covered Bridge (Ashtabula County) to Hidden Valley Park south entrance (Madison) on the wild and scenic Grand River. Awards to top three finishers in each race category (determined by skill level and boat type). Wear a fun, crazy hat while you race! Pre-registration and fee required, check back for link and details.

Ohio pioneered the river conservation movement when it passed the nations first Scenic River Act in February 1968. On January 17, 1974. The Grand River earned the distinction of becoming Ohio's second designated Wild & Scenic river. Lake Metroparks' annual Grand River Canoe & Kayak Race takes place on the first part of the wild section, which is from the Harpersfield covered bridge in Ashtabula County flowing westerly for 23 miles to the Norfolk & Western Railroad trestle in Lake County.
