More About Playmakers and Wingate University Present New Plays by Local Playwrights

Union County Playmakers hosts a New Play Festival at Wingate University at 7 p.m. in the Batte Center’s Plyler-Griffin Recital Hall on Wingate’s campus on Friday, April 20, 2018. The event is free and open to the public.

Local playwrights submitted scripts for 10 minute plays that had not been previously published or performed. From the submissions, six quirky, poignant, and thought-provoking plays were selected and will come to life on the stage.

The plays and their authors are:

“ Showdown at the Roadhouse,” based on a true story about a tough guy looking for trouble but an older wiser head prevails, by David Michael of Wingate.

“We Made A Baby or My Husband, the Seahorse,” a look at a couple handling their first pregnancy, by Winston Sims of Indian Trail.

“Listen, A Lesson Learned,” a brief lesson in the fine art of conversation, by David R. Wrenn of Matthews.

“Uploaded,”a science fiction play by Tom Russell of Charlotte.

“The Bus Ride,” an examination of sanity, by Deb Smith of Monroe.
“Left Out of Limbo,” about two people whose after lives intersect, by Erica Owens of Waxhaw.

This event is a partnership between the Playmakers and Wingate University’s Communications Department and Drama Society.
