About The Athenaeum Press at Coastal Carolina University

The Athenaeum Press at Coastal Carolina University will:
Produce high-quality works in both print and digital forms
Provide students with the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to the development of new works
Serve the community by creating content that is of national, regional and local interest
This threefold commitment to quality, education and service distinguishes the Athenaeum Press from traditional university presses and commercial publishers. Founded at a time when print, publishing, media and culture are in a state of transition, the press will allow students to explore overlapping and occasional divergent developments in visual and written creativity and learn how to respond to and even affect the future of print and post-print cultural productions. The Athenaeum Press will service a range of projects selected to capture this moment in media history and to serve the needs of not just the university’s students, but also the larger community. The press will feature nontraditional, interdisciplinary works, traditional print publications and online projects that utilize new digital products and emerging platforms.
Not just a laboratory of editing and design, the press will seek to engage the public in the university’s service area, producing visual and textual media that speaks to the needs and aspirations of our region, stage and nation.
