More About Crown Point Community Foundation

In 1989, longtime area physician and community leader, Dr. John Birdzell met with fellow Crown Point Rotary members to discuss the need for establishing a public charitable organization dedicated to building permanently endowed funds that distribute grants for community needs. The idea was well received. Much brainstorming and administrative preparation followed, including incorporation and tax exemption certification. In 1990, the Crown Point Community Foundation was a reality.

A community foundation is a pool of many separate endowment funds established by individuals and corporations to enhance the quality of life in the community. A board of directors, composed of local leaders, invests these pooled funds and distributes grants each year for community needs. A 19-member volunteer Board of Directors governs the Crown Point Community Foundation. The Foundation administers over 350 funds and has assets totaling over 30 million dollars.

The Crown Point Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. The Foundation is a member of the IN Philanthropy Alliance. The Foundation office is located at 115 S. Court St. in Crown Point, Indiana.
