More About Allegany Museum OPEN Sept 1

Allegany Museum is delighted to announce that the second floor of the Museum at 3 Pershing Place, Cumberland, will be open once more!
After months of closure because of our concern for public and volunteer safety in the face of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Board decided to reopen on September 1, in accordance with State guidelines.
As an extra precaution, the Museum has contracted with Mike McKay, operator of Germ Defense Maryland.
The Germ Defense system is highly effective at killing the virus. Once sprayed, the Museum will be protected for about 90 days. This treatment generates a turbulent aerosol that uses evaporation to quickly disperse H202 vapor and increasingly concentrated micro-droplets everywhere in rooms to kill germs where they hide, ensuring the proprietary formula reaches even those spaces beyond the reach of sprays, wipes, or UV lights. Mike McKay says that, in choosing the Germ Defense system, “we were looking how to help someone recuperating at home in the same clean conditions as a hospital room”. The process kills germs on surfaces in 15 seconds, McKay said. As well as the major attack on the virus, all touch surfaces in the Museum will be sanitized daily. Visitors and volunteers will be required to wear masks, and social distance. Please come visit the Museum, opening from Tuesday September 1. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10.00 to 4.00, and Sundays 1.00pm to 4. Visit us at
