More About Poolmart & Spas

In January of 2007, Jim Bishop purchased Poolmart & Spas from founder Peter Gannon. Jim grew up in the pool and spa industry with more than 30 years of experience. He has worked in retail, distribution, manufacturing, and as a manufacturer's sales representative. This was a great opportunity for Jim to get off the road and see more of his family, and for Pete to retire and spend more time on the golf course.

Pete started Poolmart in 1980 with a different view from that of his competitors...to take water chemistry to the next level. At the time, water chemistry was a hit and miss "bgaswh" (best guess and see what happens) proposition. It was "dump this in, dump that in, and let's see what happens." Pete wanted to find out the causes of the problem rather than just try to cover up the symptoms. In other words, it dawned on him that cloudy water, algae, funky odors, and itchy skin were caused by something. Let's find that something and fix it so the causes and the symptoms would go away for good. We continue Pete's philosophy today to resolve the problem not simply put a band-aid on it.

We have tried over the years to stay on the leading edge of all the new technology and innovations that has flooded this industry. Our duty to you as our customers is to protect you the best we can. If it works...we'll carry it. The point is if you see something magical and too good to be true, ask before you spend your hard earned money...there is probably a good reason why we do not carry it.

If you're interested in learning more about easy pool care and how to avoid "junk science and voodoo chemistry", please attend our Pool School. Thank you for being our valued customer.

Here's hoping for a HOT summer!

Remember too that we are a family friendly organization and reserve the right to reject any events that we deem inappropriate for our calendar or online media tools.
