HAUNTED LOCATIONS

Before you visit any local haunt, make sure to obtain permission prior to your visit and be respectful of privately owned properties, their hours of operation, local regulations, and rules for visiting at all times. Happy haunting!

Reeder Road
GRIFFITH, IN
Local Legend says there is a hitchhiking ghost on Reeder Road and she goes by the name of Elizabeth Wilson. Elizabeth supposedly drowned in a swamp when her car went off the road and her ghost has been seen waiting at the roadside for a ride to her old house. But once she's inside the car, she disappears at Ross Cemetery, where she was buried in 1955. Other local stories say the spot was a popular place to dump Mafia kills in the 1930s and was also a popular suicide location in the 1980s and 1990s. People say the area is haunted by voices, strange lights and apparitions.

Baums Bridge Inn
1092 S Baums Bridge Road
KOUTS, IN
219-766-0515
This house turned restaurant is believed to be haunted by a man that can be seen surrounded by a dim light. He comes off as shy, but some say if you look at him long enough that he becomes enraged and appears in front of you in the blink of a second.

Posey Chapel
3789 E. 1000 N
LA PORTE, IN
More than 150 years ago, the church was burnt down and the preacher hung himself from the tree near the gate. Haunting events reported have included red eyes or red lights appearing, voices, and orbs.

Stallbohm-Kaske House
1154 Ridge Rd.
MUNSTER, IN
Locals say that the original inn that once stood in this location was burned down on Halloween of 1909. Resident Wilhelmina Kaske passed away in 1949 in a front bedroom. Many believe that these two incidents may be the reason for today's hauntings. Witnesses have reported seeing a figure of some sort, leaning out of the barn window, a presence in the bedroom, footsteps, crashing sounds and cold spots. One employee even reported being doused with paint while he was trying to paint over the wallpaper in the hallway. This location was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 and is currently owned by the town of Munster.

Wolf Mansion - Josephus Wolf House
440 W 700 N
PORTAGE, IN
Legend says the owner of this mansion went crazy and in his rage, he went on a killing spree. Stories say he even killed his own family while he was at it, before killing himself. Witnesses say that there is an unexplained light that comes on in the bell tower and they have heard the rininging of a nonexistent bell. Orbs and apparitions have also been seen, some through the windows. Also reported at the mansion are eerie sounds and feelings.

Dog Face Bridge
South 1000 West over the Kankakee River
SAN PIERRE, IN
This bridge has a couple of legends that surround it. One involves a 1950's honeymooning couple and a dog that ran out in the front of the car, causing them to drive off the bridge. There have been many reports of things in the area including apparitions of bodies, a females apparition with a dog's head, growing sounds and howls. Reports say the bridge is no longer there, only its cement remnants.

Inn at Aberdeen
3158 IN-2
VALPARAISO, IN
(219) 465-3753
This inn dates back to the 1830's and is known to have a playful spirit that likes to hide guests' things in strange places. One time, a guests' lipstick turned up in a shoe. Disembodied footsteps and cold spots have also been reported here, and psychic and ghost-hunting teams have determined that there are ghosts of a man in the basement and a young girl who wanders the inn.

Valparaiso University Alumni Hall
1100 Campus Dr
VALPARAISO, IN
Two ghostly children are known to haunt the Alumni Hall at this university. They are around the ages of 8 or 9 and have been seen wearing jogging pants. They have been known to run up and down the halls at around 2 AM. Some student residents say the ghosts have even spoken to them and told them that they were playing tag.

Whihala Beach
White Oak Ave
WHITING, IN
Some stories say that if you go to this beach at night, you will be able to see and hear phantom sailboats and apparitions of people swimming and playing with innertubes. The ghostly people are said to be wearing old-fashioned style bathing suits.
