The first song off their recently released album, “Rescuer (Good News) released on September 1st.“There’s a lot of bad news out there, but no matter what we have good news, and that good news has a name: Jesus Christ. Today there is nothing more powerful we can do in the darkness, in the bleakness, then proclaim the good news, then proclaim the gospel, and that’s why we wrote this song,” says band member Gareth Gilkeson. “The good Lord came to seek and save and maybe that’s a message you need to hear today. Maybe you need to know that you can be rescued. Maybe you just need to celebrate the fact that you have been rescued. Jesus is our rescuer, and there’s good news in Him.”

    - Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of the sick, orphans, shut-ins and others who were forgotten by distributing candy to them. Thus, Sweetest Day was born. Today is the day to do something nice for someone that will make him or her say, "Oh, that's so sweet!" Annually, the third Saturday in October.

    - Underground Theatre Company/6 Players Studio Theatre has not ceased to delight audiences and Jekyll & Hyde is no exception with another immersive and interactive musical while you dine at House of Oliver.

Glamorous, sexy and deliciously wicked, Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s gripping tale of a brilliant mind gone horrifically awry. In an attempt to cure his ailing father’s mental illness by separating “good” from “evil” in the human personality, talented physician Dr. Jekyll inadvertently creates an alternate personality of pure evil, dubbed Mr. Hyde, who wreaks murderous havoc on the city of London.

An evocative tale of two men – one a doctor, passionate and romantic – the other, a terrifying madman; and two women – one, beautiful and trusting – the other, beautiful and trusting only herself. Both in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret.

Featuring a thrilling pop rock score including the unforgettable it, “This Is the Moment” from multi Grammy and Tony nominated Frank Wildhorn and double Oscar and Grammy winning Leslie Bricusse, Jekyll & Hyde has mesmerized audiences the world over.

This production contains mature content which may not be appropriate for ages younger than 17.

    - Sacramento State's One Book Program will be hosting One Book Day with special guests, Wayne and Nicole Maines on Thursday, October 25th, 2018. Wayne and Nicole and their family are the subject of the book, Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of American Family, written by Amy Ellis Nut. The book chronicles the family and their story as they come to terms with Nicole, who was assigned male at birth, being transgender.

Nicole knew early on that her assigned gender identity did not match who she is. When she rejected the gender assigned to her, she was faced with multiple barriers that she and her family addressed both within the family and in her community. For instance, the family resisted when the administrators at Nicole’s elementary school marked her as different and apart by requiring her to use the staff bathroom, rather than the girls’ bathroom. In 2014, Nicole was vindicated by the state of Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court when they decided that the school violated her rights under the Maine Human Rights Act, marking the first time a state high court ruled for transgender folk to use the bathroom that correlates to their gender identity. Her battle was featured in the HBO documentary, “The Trans List”. Nicole continues to make history. This Fall, she will be TV’s first transgender superhero in season 4 of the CW show “Supergirl”.

There will be two lectures featuring Wayne Maines and Nicole Maines at 12 pm and 7 pm, both in the University Union Ballroom. Book signings will follow each lecture. “In-Queer-Y”, a panel discussion about trans and queer identity and lived experiences featuring Sac State faculty, staff and students will be hosted at 2:30 pm in the University Union Ballroom.

The One Book Program selects a book each year to bring together the Sac State community and the Sacramento region. Each book selected serves as a catalyst for considered conversations focusing on issues of social justice. The books chosen tend to just push along the edges, so while people may start conversations with feelings about the book or topic, they soon move into thoughtful, intellectual engagement with one another.

The events are free for students and the general public. For more information, visit click for details or the University Union Information Desk at (916) 278-6997.

  • | 6:30pm - | Arts and Entertainment, Musical, Dark drama, Murder/thriller, Craft Beer, Wine, Interactive, Immersive

Tickets: $40 Includes Admission, one beverage of choice (wine, beer, soda, or tea)

His debut album Beautiful Soul sold over 2.5 million albums and 8 million singles in 2004. Due to his success, he was nominated for Best New Artist in the 2005 American Music Awards. In 2008, his multi-platinum single Leavin was the #1 most played song at Top 40 Radio for six weeks. It sold over 2 million singles that year.

McCartney has been very successful making national headlining tours, while also performing alongside artists including Jordin Sparks (2008), New Kids On The Block (2009), and Backstreet Boys (2013). He also co-wrote the 2008 hit song Bleeding Love with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder for Leona Lewis’ debut album. Compared to his previous album, In Technicolor, Jesse’s newest single Better With You is described as more sonically organic, acoustic-driven style of what his fans are used to. The song represents true love, expressing how someone can rely and understand their significant other.

“It feels fresh and contemporary to me,” said McCartney. “Things are contentious. I think a song about finding a safe place with a partner is an uplifting message.”
