More About Mary Alice (Hall) Mock Student Memorial History Award
Students in public, private or parochial schools and homeschool settings can now apply for this year’s Mary Alice (Hall) Mock Student Memorial History Award. Managed by the Community Foundation of the Alleghenies, the financial award of $750 is made available through the Bedford County Historical Society to a graduating senior residing in Bedford County. The award originates from a “charitable trust” established by William Roy Mock as a special remembrance to his wife, Mary Alice (Hall) Mock, who he said had an unquenchable interest in American history. The intent of the fund is to further the education of a young mind in developing skills, either through a history related major in college or at a trade or vocational school, and utilizing and applying those talents in a profession, dealing with the preservation of American history. Interested students should stop by the historical society at 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford, to pick up a handout. The topic is of the student’s own choosing, and must be approved by the historical society. The main focus of the research should highlight a topic dealing with either heritage, genealogical relationships, or events of historical significance, dealing with Bedford County. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the research task, including an application, project and paper, with supportive documentation by the due date, March 31.
