
More About Memorial Service to Honor Pvt. John Saupp
The Corp. Isaac Rice, Circle 233, of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, will be having a memorial service to honor Pvt. John E. Saupp. The service will take place in the Old St.Thomas The Apostle Cemetery on East Street in Bedford across from the Bedford High School. It will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 25th. Pvt. Saupp was possibly the first Union soldier from Bedford County, PA to be killed in the Civil War.

The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, Inc. is a Congressionally Chartered non-profit organization, and is the oldest women’s hereditary organization in the United States. The original objectives of the organization included promotion of patriotism and loyalty to the Union, and participation in community service, especially for the aid of our Veterans and their dependents. Today’s objectives are still the same, with great emphasis on promotion of patriotism, education, and preservation of history.
