Hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual)

Author and editor Dr. Kostas Kampourakis will speak at the June meeting of of the Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC). Because he is joining online from Geneva, Switzerland, the HFFC Monthly Meeting will be on Sunday June 11 instead of on our usual "second Monday" date. He will talk about DNA testing versus ancestry and ethnicity. "Ethnicity is not written in your DNA; it depends on... your language and traditions... on your social life."

Dr. Kampourakis teaches science education and biology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, while writing and editing books that educate non-experts about evolution, genetics and the nature of science. His latest book is Ancestry Reimagined: Dismantling the Myth of Genetic Ethnicities. He is currently writing another book, Science Distrust, and is editing a collection about Darwin Mythology. Dr. Kampourakis also edits the book series Understanding Life, from Cambridge University Press. In the past he was Editor-in-chief of the Springer journal, Science and Education and edited two related book series.

This meeting is free and open to all. Registrants can join in person at the Wilton Quaker Meetinghouse, 317 New Canaan Road or choose to participate virtually. Register here to attend either in-person in Wilton, CT, where refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM, or to receive a link to participate online via Zoom.
