More About Let's Go Birding Together Kickoff Talk & Tour ft. Susan Fox Rogers

To celebrate Pride Month and Five Years of Let's Go Birding Together events, we are excited to announce a special kickoff evening event here at Greenwich Audubon Center. Join author and avid outdoorswoman Susan Fox Rogers as she reads from her new memoir, Learning the Birds, in which she shares the joys and challenges of becoming a birder mid-age. Learning the Birds chronicles Rogers’ adventures searching for birds, following her birding journey from New York State's Hudson Valley to the Everglades, the Southwest, and Alaska. Rogers will share images of remarkable birds she has found, tell us about how she has been inspired by the work of early women birders like Florence Merriam Bailey, and remind us of our connection to the wild creatures with which we share the land. Following the presentation, Rogers along with GAS Naturalist Ryan MacLean will lead the group in an evening bird tour outside to look and listen for birds at dusk! Bring binoculars if you own them.
Susan Fox Rogers is the author of Learning the Birds: A Mid-Life Adventure, and My Reach: A Hudson River Memoir, which explores the Hudson River from the perspective of her kayak. She is the editor of eleven anthologies, including Solo: On Her Own Adventure, and Antarctica: Life on the Ice. Her most recent collection, When Birds Are Near: Dispatches from Contemporary Writers, celebrates the birding life.
The arrival of June marks Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, usually just shortened to Pride Month. Celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, and, in the case of Audubon, bird walks. Our Let's Go Birding Together series was founded and organized by Jason St. Sauver, Community Education director at Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center in Denton, Nebraska. Other Audubon sites across the country have joined Jason in creating inclusive birding events.
Let's Go Birding Together walks are for everyone who loves birds and the outdoors. We welcome those who identify as LGBTQ, allies, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy an outdoor experience that is inclusive. Why do we do this? Because the outdoors has not always been a welcoming place for LGBTQ people and Audubon wants help change that. For more information visit Click for Details
