More About Thursday Treasure: Maps

Whether hand-drawn by a famous cartographer or read off an app on your phone, we have all held a map. Maps have been used for tasks as grand as crossing an ocean to as simple as finding a grocery store. While cartography may seem like a straightforward subject, the history of mapping out our globe has been intensely political and cause for enormous debate. Westport’s landscape has been mapped out since long before its incorporation as a town in 1835 - see how the town has evolved through time via the many maps the museum’s collection holds.

Thursday Treasures is a Westport Museum programming series showcasing objects from the collection not normally on public view. See and hear the stories behind some of the most unique, mysterious, and impactful artifacts in our community.
