More About Meet local author Douglas Dixon
10a-10:30a: STORYTIME
11:30a-12:30p: BOOK SIGNING
Author—and IU alum—Doug Dixon is as excited to create children’s picture books as he is producing scholarly works. He’s told metaphoric tales of competitive (and fun-filled) pickles and portrayed the drama of midwestern states personified at summer camp. His book series short-titled Don’t You Mind! (“My Waistline”, My Hairline,” and “My Behind”) pokes fun at our culture’s obsession with physical characteristics and healthy habits. Zany, humorous, (and sometimes educational) stories and word play with attention-grabbing illustrations mark much of what he does to entertain children and families.
A native of Evansville, Indiana, Doug served in the U. S. Foreign Service and on the faculties of several universities. Before earning a PhD at the University of Georgia, he taught U. S. History, Economics, World Geography, and Literature, in public schools. He is the author of the book Beyond Truman: Robert H. Ferrell and Crafting the Past (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020). His article “Robert H. Ferrell, Whiskey, and Harry Truman (in Traces of Indiana and Midwestern History, Summer 2023) is available now. Peace Corps beginnings and myths, political conservatives in mid-twentieth-century America, and Latinx mmigrants in the Midwest are several other topics he has recently explored in popular and scholarly works. Dixon resides in Austin, Texas.
