More About Framingham Gun Buy Back Gift Cards for Guns

Led by the Framingham Police Department, Middlesex Sheriff’s Department, Mayor Yvonne M. Spicer, Framingham City Council, with support from the Metro West Health Foundation, MutualOne Bank, Framingham Police Association and Framingham Police Athletic League and other Community Partners, the City is announcing a “Gift Cards for Guns” initiative on Saturday, September 14 from 10 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

This public health and public safety event will provide residents with an opportunity to anonymously and safely dispose of their unwanted firearms and, in turn, reduce the potential for an accidental discharge or wrongdoing in a home.

The citywide Gift Cards for Guns drop-off program provides a safe, convenient way for participants to drop off unwanted guns with a NO Questions asked and NO ID required.
The drop-off location is:
Framingham Department of Public Works
100 Western Avenue, Framingham

Drop-off: Parking lot of Capital Improvements Building
Framingham Police and Middlesex Sheriff’s Department will be managing the site and handling the guns turned in, and the State Police will destroy the guns.

As an incentive to participate, residents will receive gift cards for each firearm they turn into public safety officers on the day of the event. The values range depending on the firearm type:
$250 gift card Assault Weapon
$150 gift card Revolver, Handgun, Semi-Automatic, Shotgun, Rifle
$25 gift card BB Gun, Pellet Gun

We ask all participants to bring firearms unloaded and safe to the drop-off location. We further ask that all firearms be placed in a bag, box or case and placed in the backseat or the trunk of your vehicle.
When you enter the drop-off location the day of the event, volunteers will provide further instructions upon entering to help expedite the process. Again, this is a 100% Anonymous event with NO ID or NO QUESTIONS being asked.

Unwanted and unsecured firearms in homes pose a serious risk to children, people with mental illness and those at risk from domestic violence. “The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is proud to once again be partnering with our colleagues at Framingham Police Department and the members of the Framingham community on this critically important initiative,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian. “The overwhelming response to previous buybacks in 2016 and 2018 show the importance of providing residents the opportunity to safely, securely dispose of unwanted firearms, reducing the chance of accidental discharge, theft, and self-harm.”
