More About Award-Winning Poet Mary Azrael to Read at Lyric Theatre for FSU Presentation

Mary Azrael, the author of several books of poems, including “Victorians,” “Riddles for a Naked Sailor,” “The House No House” and “Black Windows,” will be reading from her works in a Frostburg State University Center for Literary Arts presentation on Thursday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre, 20 E. Main St. in Frostburg

Azrael’s poems have appeared in many journals that include “Prairie Schooner,” “Harpers” and “Calyx.” She has written an award-winning libretto for choral work, “On Paper Bridges,” and an opera libretto, “Lost Childhood,” inspired by the life of Holocaust survivor Yehuda Nir. She is also a co-founder of Passager Books, in which works by authors that appear in “Passager” are published.

She has been a writer/consultant for the Maryland Homeless Services Program. Previously a Maryland State Arts Council Artist in Residence for many years, she now teaches poetry writing in the Odyssey Program at Johns Hopkins University.
