FSU Student Jessica Ruskin to Present Senior Research Lecture

More About FSU Student Jessica Ruskin to Present Senior Research Lecture

Frostburg State University’s Department of Music will present student Jessica Ruskin in her senior research lecture presentation, “Music Perception and Mental Illness,” on Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. in room 139 of FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Throughout her research, Ruskin has focused on how music perception is unique to several mental illnesses, including autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder. Through a meta-analysis of existing research, Ruskin has uncovered several themes regarding the use of music therapy to treat these conditions and the significance of music therapy for continued mental health treatment. The lecture will include several points of group discussion, a video demonstration and more. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.

For more information, contact FSU’s Department of Music at 301-687-4109.
