First Peoples Community FCU to Expand its Somerset County Presence in Rockwood and Berlin, PA

The Credit Union will add its third and fourth branch in Somerset County, bringing the total branch count to 18

First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union is happy to announce its expansion into Rockwood and Berlin, PA, marking the beginning of a deeper expansion into Somerset County. The Rockwood branch will be located at 680 Main Street, and the Berlin building is located at 1026 Main Street in Berlin, and was previously occupied by Citizens Bank prior to its closure in 2019.

“First Peoples has been serving Somerset County for over 12years with branches in Somerset and Meyersdale. We’re excited to expand our physical locations to better serve our current membership, and to offer a solid community credit union option for new members, especially at a time when other institutions are closing their doors locally,”says First Peoples President/CEO, Mr. Stacey Bingaman. “Plans are underway for some minimal renovations at both branches, and we anticipate opening dates within the next 6-8 weeks. We’re looking forward to becoming a more integral part of rural Somerset county and offering top-notch financial services to our newest neighbors.

In 1960, First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union (formerly known as Amcelle Employees Federal Credit Union) was organized to serve the financial needs of the employees and families of the Amcelle Corporation. In 1975, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approved an amendment to our charter enabling us to offer credit union services to employees or residents of Allegany County. In 1983, the NCUA approved another amendment to our charter allowing us to serve persons who reside or work in Mineral County, West Virginia. In 1998, NCUA approved an expansion of our charter to include Garrett County, Maryland. Somerset County, Pennsylvania was added to our service area in 2001. Our main branch is on the Downtown Cumberland Mall, with a drive-thru facility on Queen City Drive in Downtown Cumberland. We have nine other branches located in LaVale Plaza, Hannah Plaza in Cresaptown, The Food Lion Center in Frostburg, on Main Street in Lonaconing, along US Rt. 40 in Grantsville, on Main Street in Accident, along Mason Dixon Highway in Meyersdale, on Rt. 28 in Short Gap and in the Potomac Plaza in Keyser. Today we are a growing, financially sound organization with a committed group of members and employees. We constantly strive to improve upon the quality and quantity of member services.
