About Habitat for Humanity Georgetown County

Habitat for Humanity Georgetown County Accomplishments

Since our founding in 1991, we have completed 97 homes. Our goal is to build four homes each year.

Habitat for Humanity Georgetown County, South Carolina is the non-profit, ecumenical, Christian-based organization that gives low-income working families a chance to contribute to society, because it builds simple, decent homes in decent communities which encourage the development of productive citizens. Habitat homeowners purchase their homes with no-interest, no profit mortgages and sweat equity. Habitat's mission is accomplished through generous donations of time, money and building materials from many local companies, civic and government leaders, and individuals who want to help their fellow citizens while building a stronger community.

Do Something As Big As A House!
Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Georgetown County

Construction Volunteers

Every year, some 300 volunteers help build our homes. Our volunteers contribute their time as individuals from all walks of life and professions as well as groups from businesses, congregations and civic organizations. Working in small teams with a Habitat for Humanity Georgetown County site supervisor, they pound nails, paint, saw, spackle, install flooring -- you name it! No experience is required, simply come with an open mind and a willing heart and we will provide the training.

Becoming a Construction Volunteer

Individuals and groups are invited to join us for a full day of house construction. HFHGC builds every Tuesday and Thursday and some Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays are our most popular day and are often filled months in advance. A volunteer commitment of one day is all we ask. If you enjoy the experience -- and we hope you will! -- you may contact us to schedule additional dates. So come once, or come once in awhile ...we're always building houses! The size of a group is generally 6-10. This can vary depending on the number of houses we are building, time of year, day of the week, other volunteers scheduled and number of available construction supervisors.
