Bellaboo's
219-963-2070
2800 Colorado St.
Lake Station, IN 46405

The Center, designed by the White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group and constructed by the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department in Indiana, is based on the proven concept that there is a positive relationship between the way children play and their cognitive and social development. Many facilities are adopting techniques designed to encourage the natural curiosity of children. The Field Museum in Chicago, for instance, has opened the Crown Family Play Lab, which is all about hands-on experiences. The key, there and at Bellaboo’s, is a simple one - children learn through play. Everything is meant to be touched, moved, constructed, and played with. At Bellaboo’s, activities will combine fun and entertainment leading to learning and development in a safe and secure environment.

The fun Discovery Play Center is designed for children from infancy through age nine. The colorful and imaginative center features 23,000 square foot of hands-on activities.

Self-guided play in a child-sized supermarket, construction zone, and pizza parlor, for example, will provide areas for children not only to interact with others, but to participate in dramatic play that stimulates intellectual growth.
Additional elements include block play, do-it-yourself face painting, an art studio, dress-up, water tables, soft-contained-play equipment, a reading room, children’s do-it-yourself cooking, a performance area, and space just for infants and toddlers with developmentally appropriate play activities. Children must be with an adult. Bellaboo's is not a daycare center or drop off location. Adults are not permitted in Bellaboo's without a child. Reservations for group field trips and birthday parties may be made by calling 219-963-2070.

Located on 160 acres in Hobart, IN, Broken Wagon Bison’s herd now numbers over 100 and provides locally grown bison meat, bison leather goods, and bison hides, as well as one-of-a-kind jewelry at their store located at 563 West 450 North in Hobart, Indiana.

Century of Progress Homes
219-926-7561
1215 N. State Rd. 49
Porter, IN 46304

Nestled in the dunes overlooking Indiana’s crescent of Lake Michigan shoreline, you might be surprised to find five homes that once embodied the bright future of American architecture and very nearly became part of its past.

The five model homes didn’t start out in the dunes. They came over after the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago, titled “A Century of Progress.” The houses starred in the Homes of Tomorrow exhibit, where nearly 50 million people could gaze upon the future of residential architecture and the stunning home conveniences on the horizon.

At the Fair’s end, developer Robert Bartlett saw the houses as a marketing opportunity. He bought and transported them by barge across the lake to Beverly Shores, a resort community he was developing on the Indiana shore.

Forty life-size bronze sculptures in a tranquil setting, complete with beautiful music and amazingly sculptured gardens allow visitors to experience the story of the crucifixion and resurrection as never before! Construction on the interactive winding pathway began in 2001 and included 3,000 yards of concrete, approximately 200 semi loads of boulders and more than 1,000 trees and bushes. Created by Texas artist Mickey Wells, 40 life-size bronze sculptures, weighing 300 to 700 pounds, vividly tell the story of the last days of Christ.

The Shrine is operated by a non-denominational, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) private foundation. The proceeds from The Gift Shoppe and donations help to maintain the grounds.
